Jordan Morris out injured. First word is that it might be ACL, but I didn't watch and have only read that from one person right here on BS.

Morris and Arriola start on the bench while career C-Shipper Duane Holmes runs wild. Not a good day for MLS.
There is kind of a difference between Huddersfield (who needed a win today to avoid being dragged into a relegation fight) and Swansea, who are currently on pace for automatic promotion (and were on pace to go top of the table until their loss today).
Nothing like a Revierderby to heat up a cold morning. Hoppe with the start for Schalke, Gio on the bench for the sickly yellow team!
Taylor Booth with a second assist since moving to Austria. Taylor Booth assist!! https://t.co/3CKBCWlfPm— 🇺🇸 ⚽ east (@eastdeflection) February 20, 2021
Except it’s not like Morris/Arriola are the reason Swansea are close to promotion, or Holmes is the reason Hud is close to relegation.... all three only recently joined. And doesn’t that make Holmes’ brace more impressive if it’s for a team close to relegation against one close to promotion? I’m not sure how there is any consistency when it comes to the national team and players in leagues at this level. See also Austria where EPB being one of the better CBs can’t get a call up vs Aaronson. And now we have Taylor Booth in the same league with two assists in two games for a bad team! 🇺🇸 Taylor Booth (19) since joining @SKNStPoelten on loan:☑️ 135 minutes played🅰️ 2 assists🔑 4 key passes⚔️ 5 tackles🔀 5/5 dribbles won💪🏻 17 duels won💯 UnbeatenAssisted an equalizer and a matchwinner so far. 👏A solid start to life in 🇦🇹! pic.twitter.com/FA7tOVMuMv— Football Wonderkids (@fbwonderkids) February 20, 2021
Steve Cooper on Jordan Morris:"It doesn't look good. I don't know the extent of it. He's in a lot of pain. We've all got our fingers crossed for him. He'll travel back with us. He's currently in a knee brace and on crutches. He'll get the best attention as soon as possible." pic.twitter.com/pHHrwldF3Q— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) February 20, 2021 That does not sound good
Two nice goals from Holmes. Consistency has been the big problem for this player. Can he find it? Huddersfield look to have have played 442 with him at forward.
If you continue to think of all of this in the crudest terms possible, then yes you will constantly be confused by national team call up decisions. But of course, all 2nd divisions are not the same, all teams within the same league are not the same, all players at similar clubs are not in the same position, etc. And while players may find their level after enough time in Europe, there are various reasons why two players of vastly different quality may end up in the same league for a season or so. So yes, just because Aaronson got called up to a couple domestic camps prior to moving to arguably a top 30 club on the planet in a VERY top heavy league, that doesn't mean that as soon as he moved to that league every American doing well in that league (including those on bottom half of the table clubs) is now equally deserving of national team minutes. And just because Morris was being eased into a starting role in his first month at a club that may be reluctant to shake things up immediately while they are on pace for automatic promotion to the Premier League, that does not mean that every American who has one good game (including those on bottom half of the table clubs who have struggled with consistency) is now equally deserving of national team minutes.
That's the question, isn't it? The guy seems to have really hot streaks, followed by really cold streaks. He's getting a bit old to expect that he'll find consistency, but we can hope that he does because then he might be an option for the US.
Yeah, Holmes is 26 now. I don't believe he has had a significant run at forward, though. Maybe he finds consistency there. Schalke's inability to get the ball to Hoppe when on the break is quite stark. The simple, quick attacking pass seems beyond them. It's almost like their scared to even make the attempt.
It is impressive from Holmes and nice to see him playing better. I really liked a lot of what he brought pre-injury and pre-Rooney. Using this game as any measure of MLS and other leagues is colossally dumb and just an example of the weird obsession / inferiority complex a significant portion of this fanbase has.
was thinking the same, a good change of scenery all around, and some silverware might be the result aaaand Jordan Morris is never going to want to go overseas ever again. Jedi and Fulham have an enormous six pointer against sheffield united in thirty minutes. absolutely need to get that W to make Newcastle sweat
Yeah, helps illustrates just how far the Turkish League has fallen. Used to be a roughly top 10 ten league with clubs who could do some damage in Europe. Come next year it will lose it's automatic Champs League group stage slot and won't even be a top 15 European league (behind powerhouses like the Serbian and Cypriot leagues...).
There are definitely some holes in Hoppe’s game that has become evident in the past few weeks. But I believe the reason his goal scoring rate has dried up is because of this reason.
Hoppe's a dude who's key skill seems to be making runs behind the defense. His goals have been a couple of effort goals -- working hard and being in the right place at the right time -- and his hat trick, which was some really nice finishes off really nice runs ... and still, the key to the goals was Amine Harit making a play and feeding him incredibly well. Harit has the talent, but he's wildly inconsistent and the rest of the team has no creative ability. Hoppe's game right now is going to be highly dependent on his service. I mean, all strikers are, but Hoppe more than most. And Schalke can't create squat.
Ill bring this name up from the doldrums again for the first time in awhile , Lynden Gooch scored a goal for Sunderland. I bring this up all a sudden because Sunderland just got their own super loaded billionaire and money is going to be no issue for them. We will see if truckloads and truckloads of cash is what it takes to turn around Sunderland's awful luck.
Feel bad for Morris. This loan was a great opportunity for him and he was going to find his rhythm. Good thing we don't have WCQing right now as Morris would be out and Puli and Gio have fallen off the face of the earth.
Yup. Big result. They're in the promotion playoff places right now. Gooch had COVID this year, and it seemed to take him a while to get back in the groove. Let's hope he can contribute greatly as Sunderland look for promotion. 1363150450938241034 is not a valid tweet id
