Yeah most seemed to think Arena was just a safe pick, but many were hoping for more of a risk. Bruce was a move in the hope just to get to Russia and figure it out and that backfired
There are three clubs in Portugal that are probably the only ones we could be talking about and I would prefer any of them to a lower table Bundesliga side. Age 22 isn't too late for him to go somewhere that specializes in adding a little polish to the players game before selling them on. I am more concerned with individual teams than leagues for our buys though.
I also wonder how desirable other candidates saw the job as at that moment in time. Starting the hex two games in the hole with a reportedly fractured locker room isn't exactly ideal. If not Arena, I think a guy of similar age and experience was likely.
About CP .... if you were on an offensive hot streak, wouldn't you want to play against Norwich? Why would you want to sit that one out?
Players want to play. It's up to the coach and physios to monitor them and their minutes. Jedi continues to roll, whatever his team's performances. Holmes hasn't hit heights of his pre-injury, pre-covid form. Kenney Saief has not featured in the last two Gdansk squads. I wonder if his loan was up. Boyd's move to Besiktas has been a failure, thus far.
There's a lot of chatter in the twitterverse about "big" clubs across Europe with interest in Chris Richards. Bayern brass meeting to decide the future here. If the rumors are to be believed, a loan is more likely. 1280918667182534656 is not a valid tweet id
One suspects that if they loan him out it'll be to a Bundesliga type of club (Dutch and Belgian clubs are also reportedly interested in that.] If they determine that they want to sell, it could be to one of those other big clubs. We had a discussion in one of these threads about a dearth of centerbacks right now. Who doesn't need CB depth? What I do know is that Richards has now proven himself with Bayern II. Another year there doesn't do him any good. So next year he either needs to have been promoted to the first team or moved elsewhere to take the "next step." Bayern needs to decide whether to pursue a first team path for him right now. Hansi Flick will have a meeting with Bayern campus manager Jochen Sauer to discuss the situation of the youth players. In focus, among others, is defender Chris Richards. The American has attracted interest from Bundesliga clubs [Kicker]— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) July 8, 2020

About Schalke being broke? They're about to have a fire sale of their first team players like McKennie. However, that might be a good thing for the young players we have there. Notably Nick Taitague (if he can ever stay healthy). "We're in a financially critical situation."What's gone wrong at Schalke, one of Germany's biggest clubs? pic.twitter.com/OspJCES83a— DW Sports (@dw_sports) July 9, 2020
That's what I thought. If anything we should be sending even more of our youths there now. In the end they proved pretty fair w/ integration in the small samples we've seen. Integrated McKennie, Wright back doored some minutes out of circumstance but showed he sucked. Taitague hasn't been able to get off the shelf. I wish KHF would have went there instead of Wolfsburg. It could be a destination for Richards. The 1's they can sell for a big profit they're going to be keen on to make up for the losses. If they can get 30-40 million for McKennie, their American project will have proven to be a Godsend. And they're going to want to do it again.
https://global.espn.com/football/so...lkeeper-steffen-set-for-man-city-spot-sources looks like steffen backing up ederson next season, according to this guy
I guess you're not familiar with pretty much any mainstream animated movie for the last decade or more.
Now that the world knows he's available..................everybody seems to want Weston McKennie. Clubs in England, France, Spain, and Germany top the list. The Premier League team mentioned in this column that's new is Wolves. Sources tell CBS Sports that Spanish and French clubs have joined the race to sign Weston McKennie, and an exit from Schalke this summer seems likely. Here is what to know and what the USMNT rising star is looking for in his next club.https://t.co/3oejbwFa6w— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) July 9, 2020
I don't doubt the interest but this Roger Gonzalez fella has certainly coming out of nowhere with the best connections in the sport....
I don't really know who he is, but it seems like every time I see his name mentioned in the Yanks Abroad forum, someone is cautioning not to give much credence to his reporting.
You have to love the entertainment of the silly season! Schalke ‘strongly believe’ McKennie will stay as USMNT star is linked with Premier League move Jochen Schneider has told Sport1: “He is our player. I strongly believe that he will stay with us.” ... “We have to rely on the young players who emerge from the academy, but also on younger players who we bring to the club. Like Suat Serdar, who came two years ago, or Ozan Kabak last season, Weston McKennie, who went through youth system - these are the players we want and need to bet on in the future.” https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/sch...remier-league-move/1xurl1muz90441j2o7t4v5q8t1
I never heard of him two weeks ago. Now he suddenly has insight into the transfers of a number of our players. More so than any other American soccer journo. Apparently. When a player of McKennie's ability might be available and has interest, the easiest rumor to pull out of one's ass is to say clubs in such and such country are interested, without even naming a club. I could start a new twitter account and say Serie A clubs have joined the race for McKennie. And I could come off as at least half correct. Some are likely monitoring him as that's what clubs do.
