I sometimes wonder if Brad Guzan ever has flashbacks to the Jamaica game when he sees other keepers get away with a couple of steps outside the box.
PSV concede from a corner. The corner was conceded by Dest after he slipped while tracking a long-pass. *1-2 in The Netherlands
was looking away, but somehow Sorloth scored a 3rd. Not a great day for PSV... 1-3 edit: from the replays, it looked like PSV was trying to play an offside trap and failed. From there, it was a simple 3v2 cross and header. Makes the PSV defenders look, uh... not good.
Great chance for Balogun as Minamino plays one across the 6 to him. Balo blocks it just wide of the near post. Monaco subs warming up, so he might be done.
yeah, not a great day for Serg. Cameras just showed Pepi warming up, then seemingly coming back to the bench and puitting his coat on. Unclear if he's kitting up or if he's sitting back down for a bit longer...
Dest with another massive and bad giveaway in his own end, fortunately Madrid were able to capitalize. Sofascore has him at 3/8 duels, 4 unsuccessful touches, and a whopping 15 possessions lost...
GOAL BALOGUN - after more than enough opportunities, Balo finally finishes - corner kick headed down, bounces right to him four yards out with the backup keeper slightly out of place. Puts it between the keeper and a defender on the line for 1-0 Monaco.
Pepi gets on the end of a delicious cross, but can't keep his volley down. It wouldn't have mattered anyway, as he was judged to be offside (looked like a solid call to me)
Balo coming off in the 86th with a slight limp, Biereth coming on, which they thought about doing earlier according to appearances. I bet Balo is fine and gets a hug from Pocognoli.
A well designed corner play comes off beautifully. Cross sent to... couldn't tell from the replay, but whoever it was crossed it beautifully off their head to Pepi, who was in the right place at the back post. ~85' 2-3
Game over for PSV at 2-3. Pepi had more chances, but none were truly "clear cut". PSV's best chance for an equalizer was fluffed by Obispro...
Didn't Musah come on with 6 minutes to play? Truthfully, I didn't watch - I am sure he helped close it out to some extent, as much as one can do as a time wasting sub. I'm bummed to see how far his stock has fallen in the past 2 seasons. I think he still looking for a good club fit somewhere, and I still think he has potential to do bigger things.
Personally I'd be nervous subbing him on, he is such a mistake prone player so his manager has more faith in him than I do lol.
Yesterday went well, I thought, for developmental purposes, and Atletico, Marseille, and Monaco all won, Atletico at PSV's expense, unfortunately. Balogun scored, Pepi scored, Weah received a yellow card and was subbed off at HT (w/ Marseille leading), Dest struggled at times. Two matches of note today: Leverkusen hosting Newcastle Juventus hosting Pafos Tillman starts! McKennie starts!
Today's excessively detailed YA Champions League overview: Malik Tillman STARTS against Newcastle Weston McKennie STARTS against Pafos Jonathan David STARTS against Pafos Josh Wynder on the bench against Napoli Cole Campbell on the bench against Bodo/Glimt Julian Ryerson on the bench against Bodo/Glimt Thomas Delaney on the bench against Villarreal (early match) Alejandro Granados not in the squad against Arsenal Wouldn't be a terrible day for Campbell and Wynder to get some CL minutes, but we'll have to wait and see.
I'm very hesitant to do this, but I'm mainly paying attention to the Juve match. Right after turning it on, I got to see Wes get megged by a Pafos pass in Juve's box. The resulting back-heel shot went just wide of the post. edit: barely two minutes later, an attack down the opposite flank requires a HUGE reaction save by di Gregorio
