Wow, what an end to Juve Villa. Goal at the death for Villa called off for foul on the keeper. Goal stolen from Juve earlier by Martinez save with ball 99% over the line. Not bad for a 0-0, and fair result I suppose. Sure wish I'd stuck with the PSV game though
He had one or two of his cheeky passes that looked good, but to be frank, he has a long long way to go to get back to the level we know he can reach. There were a few poor passes from him, even when he had time and space, and he also looked gassed by the 80th minute to me, after just coming in in the 62nd. I know he just came back, and hope these are building blocks and the minutes today will help him, but I’m still in the concerned camp for his career, despite his age.
There was a sequence where he played a one-two with Guirassy and first-timed a perfectly weighted diagonal pass to switch the play from the return, and I was like "yeah, that's the Gio I missed"
How many Yanks in the CL were on the field at the same time today? Surely a record a few times over? Pepi, Ledesma, Tillman, Reyna, Balogun, Weah, CCV, Trusty.
Not expecting a lot of activity in here given the holiday, but the early slate of Euro matches today has Tessmann starting at Qarabag, Maloney starting vs Chelsea, Bello starting in Bosnia, Olosunde on the bench for New Saints, and Delaney starting against Dinamo Minsk.
LASK keeper Siebenhandl sent off for a handball - just outside the box parrying away a bouncing ball - in just the fifth minute or so. Long VAR review delay, but yikes. Bello playing LB.
Setting the table for CL Matchday 6 (of 8) tomorrow and Wednesday ... Tomorrow 12:45 PM Celtic visit Dinamo Zagreb 3:00 PM PSV visit Brest Wednesday (all of our matches at 3:00 PM Eastern) Milan host Crvena Zvezda Dortmund host Barcelona Juventus host Man City Monaco visit Arsenal
No surprises so far today. Tillman starts!, with Pepi and Ledezma on the bench, PSV visiting Brest.
I will assume that a draw was acceptable to Celtic, with two remaining CL matches, home to Young Boys (need a win) and away to Aston Villa (expect a loss). Nine points now and 12 in the end should be enough (for top 24).
Against the run of play, Brest execute a well worked FK routine and score. Some blame can be put in Tilman, whose man got the assist. But it's still being checked by VAR, so... TBD. edit: goal given. The question was over hand-ball by Tilman's man
If 12 is the goal, PSV needs a point here. They should get an auto 3 in the next match but the final match day is against Liverpool. Though LFC could enter that final match day with 1st place secured
PK given to PSV for a handball, but ref is going to the monitor. I think this will get overturned. edit: no PK. Match remains 1-0.
