So what Yanks currently playing abroad end up benefitting the most from their performances in the WC?

I'd say Edu, Bradley, and Altidore. Bradley may not move, but I could see a team needing defensive steel picking up Edu.

Altidore has been magnificent. I think another Prem team picks him up.

Altidore was good today. I think Bradley and Benny could benefit especially since Benny's team was relegated.

I'd like to see Benny move south to Germany. His performance today should catch somebody's attention.

Benny played well in the last game as well.

Why is it that we never hear rumors about Edu moving? He's played three class halves, on top of the yeoman's work he's put in at Rangers. Our offense was smooth yet solid in the back with him out there.

Put another way, in the three halves he's played, we've outscored opponents 2-0 (or maybe 4-0 with a goal by Edu??). In the previous three halves, we were outscored 3-1 and struggled in possession.

Edu is having a Charlie Davies-like influence on the USMNT.

Edu is at a proper club where he's just now cementing his position in the squad, it would be nice for him to keep his spot and have more of an influence for another season or two before we start talking about a move.

At the risk of offending our Scottish friends, it's the extremely physical quality of the league that makes me worry about Edu playing there for longer.

Wouldn't Edu be limited considering his passport situation (lack of one). I know he was able to get a work permit in Scotland but would he be able to get one in England for example?

Edit: Considering how he is playing in the WC I don't think a wp would be a problem.

I actually think the Bundesliga would be a great fit for Edu.

I Think Edu should stay with Rangers his game will improve more and more every year and he will win alot of trophies with them maybe after a couple a seasons he can go to a better league and play with a top team

I agree I dont think a bottom level Prem team would benifit him in any way. Sure the comp is better but he doesn't need a relegation fight especially after winning trophies at Rangers. He needs more experience at the club level because after all he was injured for a while

I believe his game will only improve so much outside of Champions League games. Hopefully he'll get to play a bunch of those this year.

+ rangers are in CL next season right?

Furthermore, he's cementing himself as a starter/legend of sorts at Rangers. That old firm goal is fantastic (looked just like the one he put in vs slovenia)

I agree with posters saying he should wait a year or two. Keep improving, and then land on a good team where he can start (a la dempsey at fulham)

I really think Dempsey's contributions at fulham is about the best we can expect for USMNT players of this generation. And that's not to degrade anyone, I think Dempsey is great at fulham. Strong fanbase, great coach, great competition...

I'd say donovan gets a lot more looks than he would've if he had played poorly or stagnant. That goal alone today (plus the one vs slovenia KILLER) I think will raise the eyebrows of a few others besides the obvious choices (everton)

I think altidore has looked great although his finishing is worrisome. His pace, age and size make him a golden purchase for any smart club. Gotta do better with the chances he's had though...

Demerit has been pretty solid and I like the way Cherundolo has looked (especially in the build up to WC). He's got pace and creativity. He can get down field and put a good ball into the middle.

I'd rather have Altidore stay and fight for a position at Villarreal. He def has a shot of cracking the starting line up and Spanish football could do wonders for his touch and dribbling

Agreed. Although if Villarreal absolutely have to move him then Ajax wouldn't be all that bad a destination either.

Bradley - entering 3rd year of 4-year contract. only 22. Why move when you can play/start another year? Get too greedy and he could end up on the bench of a big club. I think he and his dad are smart enough not to go somewhere to sit.

Altidore - I'd prefer he stay at ANY club that will start him. Spain would be great, etc. He needs to play on a weekly basis.

LD - He's the only one who really needs to move to improve. He's great, but he's so much better after just 3 months at Everton. I don't think LD is really enamoured with the "top" clubs, especially if they are anything close to Bayern Munich. I think he will head back to Everton for 4 years...hopefully.

Benny - got to go somewhere. Holland, Belgium, Denmark?

Dolo - just signed and too old.

Edu - can we let the guy play/start a full year before he moves again.

Gooch - will he get minutes at AC Milan? It's a move, but a move down.

Demerit - An EPL team may bring him in for a year or two, if injury concerns are over.

Dempsey - not really on the list since he gets enough exposure in the EPL at Fulham, so his performance should not really impact his reputation.

His WP covers the whole of the UK, not just Scotland.

I believe if you change clubs (transfer or loan) you have to apply for another wp. As I said he is playing in the World Cup so if he needed a new wp I'm sure he'd get it.
