Not sure how much I believe modern soccer statistics. They are mostly fairly new numbers/concepts/theories. If you tell me Matt Turner is statistically fantastic, well, I watch the games and come to a different conclusion. From Panama in 2025 (disaster) through to Turkey in 2026 (disaster) I think he has shown himself to be quite poor at the international level even if the stats indicate he is a great MLS keeper. In terms of someone coming through for 2030, we were sitting here in 2022 saying the same thing for 2026. “Surely a Slonina or someone will take the reins for 2026.” And it didn’t happen. When was the last time La Masia produced a GK who went on to have a good career in the top 5 leagues? I am hopeful for the Eyestones/Kochens/Bradys/Beavers and I follow them relatively closely but odds are high none of them establish themselves as top 5 league starters. Could one of them? Of course but what are the odds of it? establishing yourself as a No. 1 keeper in a top 5 league is perhaps the hardest thing (positional achievement wise) to do in the sport. Ironically enough, probably the keeper with the best odds to be a starter in a top 5 league in 2030 is Jonathan Klinnsmann who has been solid in Serie B and attracted interest from Serie A. Considering no top 5 regular level keeper has come through in the last 10+ years. What are the odds 1 or multiple come through in the next 4? Low but hope springs eternal. All we need is one to fall our way and we can be set for 15 years.
Like center forwards and central defenders they break out later once they pick up experience the hard way. Forward started popping and Richards was a CD ti build around. Surely someone will make some big advancement and force their way in.
Bello, trusty, CCV related……… but the great Austria BL v Scottish EPL debate that only me and Clint Eastwood care about……….. Strum Graz absolutely ghetto stomped Hearts in champions league qualification matchup 4-0 yesterday. Obviously no yanks played but……. Gauging league quality and level here maybe it’s time to put a bit more respect in George Bellos name? I still want him to move……… just not to Scotland , Austria visibly better in this transitive law case
Busio has been named Venezia captain. Only 24 years old, pretty neat. Venezia have been very active in the transfer market and shored up pretty much all positions they needed to for this promotion
Neither is anyone else. https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/86/stats/season/27577/players/rating/serie-b-players?position=keeper
That's all hype. https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/86/stats/season/27577/players/rating/serie-b-players?position=keeper

He most certainly wasn't solid last season. Worst shot stopper in Serie B among keepers with a qualifying number of starts (19 of 19). I feel quite confident that he won't be moving to a Serie A side. https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/86/stats/season/27577/players/_goals_prevented/serie-b-players
I was asking myself if we've ever had a USMNTer be captain of a Serie A team. Meanwhile we literally had two Americans captain Serie A teams last year. McKennie when Locatelli wasn't playing.
Gio needs to go to MLS. It’s the obvious, logical next step in his career. He will: 1 get paid 2 get minutes 3 have responsibilities 4 have pressure to perform while still getting some leeway to learn 5 be surrounded by supporters who love him no matter how or how much he plays. 6 have some freedom to grow into other roles If he plays well in MLS, he will still be in the national team picture. As it stands today, I don’t know if he continues to get called in for first choice teams for very much longer. It took a while for Pochettino to warm up to him. The next coach might not waste that time.
Count me as somebody who didn't know Damion Downs was back with Southampton. It just hadn't occurred to me. [There was also an American starting for Braunschweig in this friendly. Johan Gomez.] Report: Downs hits first-half winner in Braunschweig | Southampton FC Official Site Saints began to assert themselves midway through the first half, with Downs drifting out to the left and sending in a dangerous cross before shooting wide from the edge of the penalty area. The USA international, who would have been disappointed to miss out on the World Cup squad, got the goal his promising start merited 10 minutes before half time. Summer signing Lewis Dobbin, who scored on his debut at Eastleigh last time out, added an assist to his name when he slipped a pass in behind the defence for the striker, who smartly rounded the keeper and then jinked inside the covering defender, showing tremendous composure to walk the ball into the net.

Goal for Miljevic as Racing beat Gimnasia in the Argentine Clausura. You do wonder if the next USMNT coach is going to say to himself "That guy has something salty in him. He's got some fire. Let's check him out."
