Yes, things like "I'm hurt" or "I've got the flu" or "my wife went into labor." Not playing to try and force a transfer is simply not doing what you are paid to do.
I would rather you were right. I've always liked Sargent personally and he's seemed like a pretty stand up dude, but this recent run of decision making, from the outside, seems a bit self-centered. Not that clubs really have much loyalty to players, but six months ago he turned down a raise and a chance to a Top 5 league again, presumably to stay in Norwich. Now, he's sitting out a game because he wants to go to Toronto? I assume the money is really good and maybe he or his wife really don't want to learn another language. Maybe with his kids they desperately want to get somewhere closer to home. Maybe the salary is absurd. But the sitting out does seem a bit out of nowhere. MLS is still 40 days plus out of camp. That's a lot of money for Norwich, really, and this season is done. I feel like if Josh really wants this, it gets done.
As far as we know, he didn't tell them he wasn't going to play in order to force a transfer. That's not what his manager said.
you guys are about as consistent as sarge is, and youre all painting a picture. the facts are these: for 2+ years sarge was banging in goals and norwich hovered just below the auto promotion spots. wolfsburg comes in with a 26 mil offer than norwich were ready to accept but it was sargent who rejected the move. his reasons were comfort in the team, relative success and not wanting to unsettle his family. again, these are real things that happened, not theory. now- a year later- the goals have dried up, norwich is on the other end of the table and "unsettling his family" doesnt seem to be as much of a roadblock. josh decided not to play a cup match (we dont have his side of this yet) while the manager was clear that thats no ok and there will be consequences, all of which is tbd. so heres the picture i see without adding, or creating my own speculation out of thin air- hes a guy who wants to get paid and face no pressure whatsoever. thats the consistency (or "settled") his actions have shown hes interested in. he has a proven history of about as much first division success as mckennie and aaronson have had in the last couple of months so its really no surprise a move to wolfsburg- where he would have to actually earn his minutes and paycheck, despite a fee that suggests he would be given more than a fair chance- wasnt the opportunity others may have seen it as. so while st louis would make more obvious sense, a move to toronto (or la, or miami) brings that not wanting to "unsettle" his family comment into question. anyways, i dont care what sargent does. i think he wants to get paid and enjoy his life off the pitch and thats completely fine, however disqualifying from the national team that is to me personally. and thats whatever it is to you, and to poch for the time being. norwich is a football club. they dont have personal feelings. he was carrying them so they were happy to be paying whatever he was paid, but he was still carrying them when 26 mil was enough to overcome their zero personal feelings. 18 mil may well be just as "convincing" as that wolfsburg offer sargent rejected now that hes giving them his first division level of play. but this isnt a matter of norwich yanking sarge around (no pun intended). his actions, as i said, have been as malleable as homer-ass bs narratives.
Unsettling his family by moving even further from America and to a country that doesn’t speak English is very different from unsettling his family to move back to the same hemisphere. Unless his side is something like, I haven’t slept for two nights because I’m struggling with this transfer talk, I don’t see a “side” that keeps Josh from seeming like a disruptive player.
Yup, saw that and thought exactly the same. That is a great development for him this close to the cup. Thatll get him back in the picture I reckon
Trusty and Celtic get a win 1-0 today to keep pace in the title race. Another good 7/10 performance by Trusty. Julian Araujo started at RB for Celtic and he looked solid, nothing spectacular!
Well we now know how we missed out on one USYNT prospect going to a top five league... Cade Cowell has Chris Leitch to thank: https://old.reddit.com/r/MLS/comments/1qd9tsm/san_jose_forgot_to_trigger_espinoza_option/ MLS_Analyst Leitch was notoriously the worst communicator among front-office types in MLS history. I've had agents call me begging me to tweet shit about how he's ruining transfer deals b/c he literally wouldn't answer the phone (this is why Cowell went to Chivas instead of Europe), and had CSOs tell me they tried to make trades with the Quakes but just couldn't reach the guy. Most teams don't screw this up b/c they hire people who actually read contracts and talk to players/agents/front office personnel. The Quakes decided to go in a different direction with that.
This didn't occur to us when it happened.................... There was a capped USMNTer on the field for Albacete's massive upset of Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey the other day. Jonathan Gomez, Jogo, came on around the 70th minute. He's mentioned multiple times in the highlight. Really nice tackle there early in the highlight. 2011558803628835299 is not a valid tweet id
One thing we can probably agree on is Chris Richards being named US Soccer Player of the Year! Pulisic had a great calendar year with Milan but did very little for the USMNT. From making FA Cup history to becoming a ‘monster’ - How Crystal Palace's Chris Richards won U.S. Soccer’s Male Player of the Year | Goal.com US By the way, at the start of the year it would have been IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to have predicted finishers 2-4 in the voting. [Arfsten, Freeman, Freese.] The Yanks Abroad didn't have the best years in USMNT uniforms.
The reason Espinoza walked as a free agent was because the Quakes forgot to exercise the clubs option in his contract..........
Are you f*cking serious??? If so, good lord that's bad. What in the f*ck does anyone in the front office in SJ get paid to do?
One of the worst owners in all of American sports (John Fisher, he who owns the Quakes and the A's who are in the middle of their super messy move to Vegas) owns them so it's no surprise the front office has been crap forever. I thought I'd heard that the Warriors owner was interested in buying the Quakes which would be 100x better in every way.
That's a call back. I can honestly believe it of Leitch -- there's been a lot of signs he was never up to the task. The bigger question is why Bruce kept him until this screw up. He should have cleaned house.
..................and a good win for Milan over 6th placed Como on the road. 3-1 Need to keep pace with Inter. It doesn't seem like Puliaic was involved. As to why Pulisic didn't start, I've seen articles saying they're monitoring his hamstring issues. Just not fully 100%, and they're not overworking him.
