James Sands started in central midfield as St. Pauli lost to Freiburg 2-1. Its going to be a hard season for them. Right now, Noahkai Banks is starting on the right of a 3-man backline for Augsburg versus Stuttgart. Yunus Musah was on the bench, and didn't get into the game for Atalanta. Terrible result as they lost 3-0 to Sassuolo
PSV just keeps getting results. 3-1 at halftime already against AZ with Til getting a brace. Dest started at right back...................
Every Serie A pundit and their mom predicted the Atalanta Juric hire would be an unmitigated disaster that would ensure they don’t qualify for Europe. That seems to be dead on. Dest and pepi (subbed on) win comfortably 5-1 and are cranking up the goal diff on Feyenoord, who must win to keep the pace with PSV.
Funny but he IS part of the team you know! That makes him every bit as responsible for the mess they're in as any other of his team mates! Can you imagine if all the players on a sh*t team all left to escape the sh*t team!
Thus my eyes deceive me…….. but the sports tracker is showing Maloney starting for Mainz as a center back……..is that accurate? That would be a very intriguing and welcome development to get back in the picture edit: this has been a trend for at least three games now. Either we completely missed this or my sports tracker starting 11 is wrong
I was very impressed watching Banks in today's match. Banks seems to be a legit 6'3"+ CB and is athletic as sin!. He was removed at 63 today and even the announcers were asking why given that he had been Ausburg's best defender. He did pick up a knock on a defensive play in the first half and seemed to be favoring that leg so perhaps that had something to do with the switch. At only 18 yo I can't remember a young CB with such a high ceiling since maybe John Brooks in 2013? Jalen Neal looked like he had the goods a few years ago but while he was a great passer for a CB his defensive attributes were always suspect. Banks looks like the complete package. He has a VVD-level ceiling once he learns all the nuances of playing CB in a top tier league.
Yes. I remember 'Boss (Agbossoumonde) but he was much more wishful thinking. He never established himself in any top tier league. I think that Philly's 2018 young duo (Trusty and McKenzie) were considered higher ceiling that 'Boss.
Boss and Ike busting destroyed my soul. At least Ike became a very solid pro later in career that could have made a case for a few caps especially with Minnesota and SKC
I feel like Boss, Zelalem, and Junior Flores were the last of the under-researched, kind of naive youth scouting heart breaks of our fandom. I guess. maybe Andrew Carleton should pile into that clown car too. Boss was one of a few in that era that I was just so sure were the next generation of guys after the '99-'03 era, and to be completely wrong about that is part of the reason we missed WC '18: The fact that Boss, Hamid, Perry Kitchen (good player, but never mattered for the USMNT), Stefan Jerome (was he the speedy guy I liked so much?), Luis Gill, Will Packwood, Marc Pelosi, Bryan Arguez, Joe Gyau and Renken (both were harmed by injuries, Renken was wiped out by them) all went nowhere, just, my god was it bad. After that era, I just no longer got schnookered again w/prospects as a blanket level of stupidity. I still miss badly on guys I really like all the time (the funniest one being falling in love with Durkin at the U17 WC in '17, and wanting to divorce him at a quickee prospect divorce hut in Vegas 5 minutes after I started watching him at the U20 WC in '19), but the last time I was just fully swallowing all the hype on every interesting guy was that '07-'11 era, and when we basically struck out with every single hyped prospect for more than half a decade, I just got off the train entirely in time for the hilarious '13 debacle. After that, twice shy, now I'm far more circumspect. Boss was definitely a bitter part of that learning curve for me, a decade into USMNT prospect wannabe scouting on my part.
You just rattled off all the names. All of them. Certainly had feels about some of them. I wonder how many other fan bases go through this. Maybe Canada and Australia????
Title race OTboth feyenoord and hearts dropped points in respective leagues. PSV pull firmly ahead and Celtic gain valuable ground
Trusty got motm…….. progress, we take it speaking of Juric, rumors are Atalanta is about to can him . Can only go up for musuh honestly
I think I forgot some guys. but I just can't remember which was which. I know I didn't mention Szetela (I'm pretty sure it was injury with him), I never bought the Zizzo hype train, felt like it was a vividness bias piece of hype, Marvel Wynne started so fast, and then went nowhere after 2-3 years etc. It's a long sad history. Put respect on Eddie Gaven and Justin Mapp and Santino Quaranta's name etc. So many that I had so much belief in, and was so totally and completely wrong lol, before the '09-'13 dip, and after.
All of them. You look at England U17s from 7 or 8 years ago, some are in the Premier League, some are in the National League. Curtis Anderson, who Man City bought from Oldham for £15k aged 11 and played in the 2017 U17 World Cup final, played 10 games for Charlotte Independence in 2019 and it was downhill from there.
