That’s probably true in the NFL. But in other sports, the players’ unions are really strong, and they’re partners with the owners. The players and owners share the goal of sharing the profits in a sustainable way. JMO
Weston McKennie is starting in a double pivot next to Locatelli in a 3-4-2-1 in Juve's upcoming match. Given that the double pivot slot next to Adams is where Poch may chose to play Weston at the WC I will be watching closely to see how he performs there. Weston was excellent in the double pivot for Schalke back in the day at the start of his professional career.
With BMG up 1-0 at '81 a graphic gets displayed showing Scally covering the most distance at 10.4 Km and the highest sprint speed at 33.6 kph! Gio on and attempting to defend by getting in the general area of the opponent with the ball. Did have a nice flick over the top which his striker just could not get to.
of course BMG give up a penalty late in injury time, makes sense. 1-1. Those are the most deflating results ever. Those results linger in minds for a long time. 4 teams sitting on 31 points........but the good thing for them is theyre all clear 5 points of the relegation playoffs, including BMG
My hot take is this is Balogun's best overall year as a pro. Yes he has four fewer (all comps) than three years ago, but that was out of the blue, this time opponents know who he is, they've seen him a bunch of times and looked at a lot of film, but he's still scoring.
Weston looked very good at CM to me. 2nd half Holm goes off and Weston moves to RWB slots in a cross for an assist!
If you want to bolster that case, I'd note he actually has the same number of non-PK goals this year in all comps as he did three years ago. (He had 7 PK goals that season and 3 PK goals currently, which accounts for the 4 goal gap.)
Good results for Milan and Juve today on the back of Como losing on Friday. Our two yank teams now in pole position for the Champions League..................
Haji Wright was named to the official EFL Championship Team of the Season: https://www.efl.com/news/2026/april/19/see-who-made-the-efl-team-of-the-season-lineups/ Between this and the PFA Team of the Year, I believe that makes Wright the 5th USMNT international to be named to a Championship Team of the Season, after Marcus Hahnemann, Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson, and Josh Sargent.
Yeah they’re all based off a revenue sharing agreement between the players and owners, which is all roughly around 50 percent per league outside of MLS. And in the NBA and NFL in particular most of the cap rules are more about competitiveness.
The smart thing about that is they both work together to generate more revenue. It's not a good thing to have teams losing money.
Yeah, that's the one good part about a league like MLS. European soccer is a house of cards. They're all losing money hand over fist. Its just a house of cards that will eventually fall. EXCEPT for the richest of the rich. So yes, Manchester City can lose hundreds of millions over a three year stretch and their owners don't care. Chelsea doesn't care. ............................but the problem is when the others have to "keep up with the joneses." You either have to sell your soul to a gulf oil state or go hideously in debt. I really respect the "middle tier" clubs that manage to compete (and compete really well), while also being financially responsible. But these clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford MUST sell players to balance the books. They MUST. In 23/24 Bournemouth, little Bournemouth, had a pre-tax loss of roughly 90 million dollars. They probably made a chunk of that up in player sales during 24/25. But the conveyor belt in and out the door is extreme for that kind of club to compete for Europe. ...........................Bournemouth's stadium would be the smallest in MLS. 11k. FC Dallas, with half of their stadium undergoing renovation, is averaging attendance of 11k. Its not gameday revenue that allows Bournemouth to compete. Its the television revenue that's shared equally amongst all clubs in the Premier League. They WILL sell Tyler Adams when the time is right. They have to. The fact that Iraola has them where they are this year after the player turnover they've had over the last year is truly remarkable. Brenden Aaronson's Leeds is a different story.
It’s been helped a ton by the massive TV deals the NFL and NBA both have. Plenty of money to go around. Though I think the current rules in the NBA are bad in that it’s impossible to keep a good team together for very long. It’s also in both the NBA and NFL the franchise values have grown an insane amount.
$175 million in transfer profits this season has probably reduced any debt Bournemouth accrued getting where they are. I think relegation would have left Leeds on a financial cliff edge. Fortunately they don't need to worry. Whether they have capital to invest this summer is a different question.
Other leagues wouldn't share that massive money equally. All teams and management and players are all partners. Players don't need to ask for more they just need to help the league bring in more and they get their cut.
Clubs are allowed a different level of losses in the Championship versus the Premier League. So for the three-year PSR calculation, Leeds have to get past the Championship years to fully maximize their allowable losses. But once they do, that club can be succeeding at the level Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Everton, etc. have this year. Bournemouth have been doing a masterful job in the transfer window. So have Brighton and Brentford. Recruiting and buying low. Selling high to overcome any financial losses, etc. I mean, Bournemouth is going to make a fortune on Kroupi. They only paid ~10 million for him. Those clubs just know what they're doing. At some point you worry about the recruiting missing a beat. If you do, then you're doing a Wolves. ........................and hopefully we'll see more Americans as part of their plans. Its just a question of value. A player like Gozo might be great value for one of these teams. Buy low/sell high. .......
They might sell him but they absolutely don't have to. He's not a Semenyo/Huijsen/Kerkez/etc type player who's young (with an upside) and in incredibly high demand who would fetch $40M+. He's heading into his 28 year old season and he's not even a locked in starter for them.
He's a locked starter for Bournemouth. He was rested at the weekend as he's still recovering from injury.
Indeed. He's coming back from injury. If Bournemouth quality for Europe, which is possible, they may choose not to have a fire sale like they did last summer. The Champions League isn't out of the question for them. [There's a scenario in which the Premier League gets 6 entrants to the Champions League. Need Villa to win the Europe League and fall out of the automatic spots of the Premier League. Otherwise, they may have to sell to pay the bills. Just part of the business model. Senesi is being highly linked with a move to a bigger club. Teams like Liverpool and Chelesa have been connected with him. Its been pretty quiet on the Akinmboni front there. Injuries....................
