Not ideal for Pepi that he started and hasn't scored a goal in this latest PSV massacre... should've probably had one or two. One thing we can say for certain is that Earnie Stewart won't be starting a podcast anytime soon Edit: reverse jinx

The funny thing is, Brendan is a creative player. There is some obsession, both among his admirers and detractors, that he's all lungs.
Whether one wants to characterize Aaronson as a 'creative player', there hasn't been much in the way of end product; he hasn't been creative enough. On the plus side, Leeds have won to go top of the table! He certainly helping to drive a winning performance at that level.
If Capology is right he should probably consider it. $300k a year is not enough to him up for the rest of his life. Consider that similar players James Sands, 24, and Keaton Parks, 27, each make over $1 million. It would be different if he were 22 but he's 26.
It's not all about money but some of it has to be. Europe has a higher earnings ceiling but the floor for a guy his caliber isn't very impressive. He is guaranteed to make 2-3 times that in MLS. 300k is the kind of money 4th and 5th midfielders make in MLS.
It's mainly about the money. But Europe, in addition to having the top leagues, also paid more. Even Scandinavia, which used to pay more than MLS, was once an attraction for good American talent. Now, only the Prem and the mid-table spenders of the rest of the Top-5 pay more.
Yeah at 26 he really has one more chance. His career could be over at 31 or 32. Not sure what his home or family situation is but that has to be a major consideration.
Would be nice if MLS was so willing to pay these players if they would invest to become a legitimate tier one league in the world.
They are. I literally wrote that Sands and Parks are on over $million and they're fringe B team players.
There was a lot of reporting in Spain over the summer indicating that everyone was assuming he'd join San Diego come the winter transfer window.
Ummm.... like seriously? They have been, for the past 20+ years. Take a look around at the modern stadiums, training facilities that rival and in most cases surpass what the "big clubs" in Europe have, not to mention the continued yearly investment in youth academies and development. There's no microwave to this. How's the Chinese Super League doing? Simply paying players more and buying the best players in the world won't suddenly change the league for the better in the long run. MLS still has a very long way to go. It has, however, made huge strides over the course of its' short history. Not to mention the speed of improvement over the past 10 years has been meteoric. League total attendance is second in the world only to the EPL. People actually care about MLS these days, and not in a "gee I hope the league survives" way. The league's overall quality is much better than most give it credit for, or even want to acknowledge,
What do you think that would look like? For USMNT purposes I like the value that domestic players and youth have. I don't want to watch teams of all foreigners.
I always find these lines of thinking funny. Matthew Hoppe didn't pan out in MLS, and neither did Gioachini. The level of play in MLS is much better than most people want to believe. The homegrown domestic players are going to be the backbone of MLS, just as they are of most leagues across the world. As the league continues to improve, we've seen a rapid rise in the level of quality of the domestic players. As fans we're also going to have to make peace with the fact that quite a few domestically developed players in the US are going to represent other nations at the international level too.
So what league do you watch that's full of American players. Watch NYCFC. We have Matt Frees, Keaton Parks, Kevin O'Toole, James Sands, Tayvon Gray, Justin Haak, Chris McFarlane and Andes Jasson.
