I could not disagree more... I actually had to stop watching the video because it kept pissing me off. Malik Tillman: One of the three said Tillman plays better once he's comfortable... and then all three just kept going on about it. Tony Meola is like "I'm still stuck on 'comfortable' you can't expect to be comfortable with the national team" but Tillman never said "I only play well when I'm comfortable", THEY are are ones who said it about him, and then they spent the next half hour holding it against him?? Gio Reyna: Charlie Davies said Reyna hasn't done anything for the USMNT since 2023 Nations League. Haji Wright is the one who scored both goals vs Jamaica in 2024. No one pushes back on that, finally enough people must have been flipping out in the chat that one of them read it and said "they're pointing out that Reyna had both assists" to which Davies responds that Reyna was already in the game and the US wasn't scoring therefore Wright gets all the credit, and that it was Tyler Adams who scored in the final. Never mind that Reyna ALSO scored in the final?? These people aren't even being disingenuous or manipulative for social media engagement which would be bad enough, they just have room temperature IQs...
The biggest surprises in the Eredivisie... Pepi and Aaronson... Ok, after watching Adam’s today I take back anything I said about other DMs displacing him. He was his best self today.
When talking heads have space to fill they create opinions for themselves in order to fill that space. Their opinions should be understood in that context.
I admit I wasn't listening that closely. I think I expected them to be like "Tillman is killing it! What is Poch doing wrong?!?!?!" And since they didn't, I gave them credit. I do think there were good points in there. I turned it off before the Reyna segment.
People don’t like BA’s aesthetic. There’s a lot of talk about getting out-muscled and it overshadows the chance creation.
Since Tillman's first cap in June of '22 Aaronson's G/A tally has been: Uzbekistan 1 A Oman 1 G Morocco 1 G Grenada 1 G Neither player belongs in the first XI. Both should be in the mix to make the roster.
The outmuscled reduces the chance creation. If he didn't get knocked off the ball so much, he'd be a very good player. He's got good vision. He's got that short, choppy step that would allow him to scoot up the field in control. It's just that in international play, dudes can simply knock him off the ball so that rarely matters. It's simply a weakness. But yes, a lot of people have this visceral negative reaction to players who try hard and don't look like the platonic ideal of their player. Which all comes back to the inferiority complex our fanbase has. Because there isn't a national team in the world that can win shit without being high effort. Just listen to Poch talk about Argentina -- it's not a shock the World Cup that Messi wins is when he had a midfield of high effort (and high skill, but high effort) dudes behind him -- he's far from his peak, but this is when he wins. And we're nowhere near that talented.
Brenden is an attacking mid who has 3 goals and 1 assist in the 2nd division of England. There is no aesthetic, platonic, or biblical issue at play here. He is however an elite presser, which counts for quite a bit in today's game.
England’s second division is richer and better than all but a handful of leagues. Brenden has 4 goals and an assist only 18 games into the season. If he keeps up the pace, that’s a monster season.
C'ship is maybe top 10. 8 goals and 2 assists in 36 games is certainly not a 'monster season' for an a-mid.
Who? What aesthetic? I think Leeds fans appreciate his aesthetic (by which I mean the way he plays). They question his decision making.
The Kleiban contingent of American fans don't like Brenden's aesthetic. There's a number on here. They disdain high effort players and only want high skill, pretty play. And pretty much every fan ever prefers offense to defense aesthetically. And a lot of Brenden's value is defensive. There are less Kleiban disciples anymore, as we've seen the players he influenced largely flame out for entirely the reasons you'd expect, but they are out there. The youtube crew all fall into that bucket as well.
Oh those idiots. The ones that decimated LA Galaxy's academy preferring players to pursue dead end careers in Yurp, with a few notable exceptions.
I don’t know what kind of goal scoring you see in the Championship but 10-12 is a big season for a non-striker and that’s out of 46 games. Not just them, the Scuffed guys and others are pretty obsessed with him losing physical confrontations. I’m less so because he brings a lot to the table and he also wins a lot of fouls. You can’t win fouls if you never go down.

Bloody hell, even Ledezma gets one. Saibari got the assist for Tillman. Pepi got an assist for Saibari.
