hard to imagine Tillman being EVER better than Reyna, honestly. That one's a simple eyeball test, dont need statistics for that one.
We had a Yankfest in the Eredivisie this morning as PSV took on Utrecht. 1st versus 2nd. And............it wasn't close. PSV won 5-2. Aaronson started and Booth came on at halftime for Utrecht. Despite the heavy defeat, the twitterverse suggests that Aaronson played well. Ledezma and Tillman started for PSV, with Pepi off the bench. Fulham and Spurs drew 1-1 today. Captaining Fulham for the first time. 🌪️ pic.twitter.com/yD41b1L156— Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) December 1, 2024
Tillman has to beat out Aaronson before he even thinks about Reyna. Aaronson: 14 g+a in 2,138, for 1 every 165 minutes Tillman: 0 in 614 minutes And Aaronson has done more otherwise. So Brenden is well ahead ATM. Some love to ballyhoo a tiny sample like 3 g+a in a couple hundred minutes/a few games, then dismiss 0 production in what equates to about 10 starts across 17 games. In int'l play, we have to make our decision based on smaller samples, like overall performance over 3-game stints. 10 starts worth & 17 appearances is a big sample. Players have to earn their keep over ones who actually have, like Reyna or even Aaronson.
There's no amount of club play that could make up for that disparity, and nat'l team performance has to take priority because that's who you're auditioning for. Past is the best predictor for future, to a pt.
Balogun in starting lineup for Monaco. McKenzie goes 90 for Toulouse in 2-0 win. They have been a defensively stingy team. Sabbi goes 60 minutes for Le Havre in a 1-0 loss. Gonna be another relegation-threatened season for them. Tessmann an unused substitute for OL.
Weah is apparently starting at CF again for Juve - probably not his best position, but is he basically used as a false 9?
Yes, and right now Tillman is becoming a hot prospect attracting big money interest because his performances are so consistently superior. Reyna is in the opposite situation where teams likely wouldn’t want to take on what is essentially a youth reclamation project.
Ouch! Lecce comes back in the 92nd to tie it up! Juve is still undefeated but that wasn't fun to watch! Nice to see Weah upfront.
Monster defensive numbers from Paxten(LCM in 4123) in a losing effort against PSV. Compared to his bro, Paxten looks an altogether different beast 26/31 passing 2/4 dribbles 2/2 long balls 9 recoveries 8/11 tackles 14/19 duels 1/1 fouls/fouled Fotmob(8.2)1st
In current setup, both Tillman and Reyna are not figured in. The first choice is Pulisic, and the 2nd is McKennie.
Reyna: best position is cam. 2nd is cm. 3rd is wide register. Tillman: best position is cm. 2nd is wide left. 3rd is cam. Never minding Reyna's playing status, there's not a lot of similarity between these two. Even in overlapping positions, their skillsets are rather different.
a) have any incredibly clever journos/pundits dubbed jedi capt america yet? b) is wes injured? i know he wasnt in the team the other day but havent been playing attention the last few days...
Mark McKenzie helped Toulouse to a 2-0 win over Auxerre today. It marked the club's fourth clean sheet out of the past five matches. One of McKenzie's better shifts for the club this season.#USMNT— Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019) December 1, 2024
Indeed. No reason why they can't be on the field at the same time. The whole Tillman versus Reyna debate is kind of lame. It really is possible to be a fan of both and want both to succeed. It really is possible to believe that play for both club and country can be brought into the mix for squad selection. it's not one or the other. We have a new regime we brought in with fresh eyes. Reyna hasn't been available yet for this new manager. Pochettino has barely been able to watch him in club soccer since taking over. We'll see in March. If they're both healthy and playing, then they're both likely to be in the squad. Where Pochettino chooses to play these guys on the field may be different than what their club managers do. As we've seen with a player like Musah. I bet we're going to see more of that. Where will Pochettino decide to play Tillman and Reyna? I don't know. What I do know is that we will always have injuries, suspensions, and players coming in and out of form. We need to build depth and depth and depth. Both of these guys have quality and will have a role to play. Why does it have to be one or the other? Take Zendejas out of the last squad and put Reyna in. I did find reviews of that PSV versus Utrecht game interesting. [I didn't watch it.] The twitterverse seems to suggest that Paxten Aaronson was just as good in that game as Tillman. Maybe was even the best Yank of the field. Another good piece to bring into the mix.
Some reports out of Italy are saying that the Lecce-Juve match shouldn't have been played because of the incident involving Fiorentina’s midfielder Edoardo Bove suffering a shock medical emergency in the Fiorentina -Inter match but the two clubs decided to play on just the same. Lecce-Juventus 1-1, le pagelle WEAH voto 5
Tillman has competition from multiple other U.S. players. As has been noted, Reyna and Aaronson are among his direct competitions. But if you look in the last window, Reyna was out and Aaronson sick. To the extent there was a player who kept Tillman out of the starting lineup in the last window it was Musah. Of course there were others too. That's the nature of the game. Good players play multiple positions and in competition with a diverse set of teammates for playing time. Diversity of options is a good problem for a manager to have. I'm confident that Tillman will get many more opportunities with the national team. I think he will benefit a lot from playing in a league where the weekly grind is more intense.
