I think they're used a lot to reduce the pool of potential players. Managers used to rely on word of mouth to identify players, which may have led to a two hour drive to watch some peer or lesser club. Now they can identify players from all over the world, then send out agency scouts to do the legwork.
My original point was some posters misuse some stats because they don't understand what they are looking at in a match. I guess Poch did not read all the comments in this thread by the folks who think the game is defined by xG + xA No single stat, except for W or L or pair of stats defines a match. Certainly individual or groups of stats, especially the predictive analytics can help to shed light on specific limited aspects of a match. Earlier in this thread some posters tried to make the case that Tillman was not the best player in the Eredivisie, not even the best player on PSV because others had a higher xG + xA !

Malik to Leverkusen getting real. Bayer 04 and Tillman, who have already reached an agreement, assume, according to the report, that the €35 million transfer fee will also apply to them from a certain date. Eindhoven, however, denies that any club other than FC Bayern can benefit from this clause. Therefore, according to Voetbal international, a legal dispute is a possibility. https://www.kicker.de/leverkusen-ei...versteckspiel-mit-der-klausel-1127634/artikel

John Feinstein was maybe my favorite writer. A Great book called "the last amateurs" covers the late 90s in the Patriot League. The simplistic synopsis is great colleges that play D1 hoops and don't offer athletic scholarships. So its a completely different deal than your Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, UConn, Arizona, UCLA, whomever... Theres a guy on Holy Cross named Chris Spitler. Someone at Holy Cross or maybe a local reporter had a step by step analysis of how each of his seasons in college went: His arc was something (I'm paraphrasing) like "Step One: Spitler won't make the team. Step Two: Spitler can practice but we won't play. Step Three: Spitler is going to get some minutes. Step Four: Spitler is starting." Now, Chris described himself at the time as the worst player in Division One Hoops. Weston is a champions league talent, so its not entirely apples to apples. But every season, I am reminded of the 'Spitler Steps' with Weston in Turin (I was with Dempsey at Fulham back in the day as well). I wouldn't be surprised with Wes if there is a Fifth: McKennie is the longest tenured player and wears the captains armband. Also- read John Feinstein books. Civil War, Season on the Brink, there are tons of them!
Move. To. MLS. It’s two years too late, but if he moves soon he can work his way back into the USMNT not long after the next World Cup.
He needs to publicly apologize to Gregg and see if he can hop back in with him. Gregg played him more than anyone else has been willing to.
