With our lack of wing depth it's Albert with a tiny, last minute shot to make the WC team instead of the younger C Sullivan who appears to be running out of time.

Someone who's only going to be 16 years-old next May will have to jump through some incredible hoops to make the World Cup roster.

Well I did say tiny but if now he may be in Dortmund's plan next year, we don't have a ton of wingers and if he looks the part and there are injuries?

Is Musah the youngest American to play at a World Cup or the youngest to start at the World Cup? Anyway he was 19.

I think it’s 1) not having much in the way in winger depth, 2) probably a 26 man roster, and 3) there’s a possibility he breaks through with a team at the caliber of Dortmund.

The promoted... did we lose anyone besides Busio? For a crappy talent pool we sure have lots of players in big leagues...

    Not a bad effort.

His cuts are more entertaining than the common “every touch” video featuring terrible music laid over selected (“every”) touches.

That mostly fits with where the Nats are.

    Here are the reported rankings the last 20 seasons: 35, 40, 35, 27, 33, 31, 22, 29, 26, 22.

This represents from 16-32 players in those leagues. You have to have 60 or so to be top ten and 250 or more to be top 5.

The talent pool curve is super steep. And it’s why recruiting dual nationals is important for the Nats. Cant be a top 10 team without a top ten pool.

This is an important game for all 3 players. So that speaks volumes. I guess it's not indicting for Wes because he was questionable w/ injury.

I'll highlight Busio as a guy who really floundered after a hot start this season. His Serie A experience went similar as last time. The lack of physical tools and dynamism on ball really catches up.

Weah is also interesting in that he is now wrapping up his 8th season as a professional (or 7th full season, not counting his debut season graduating from the youth team late in the year), and he has still never started more than 18 league games in a single season at any level yet.

I'm not sure that's ever been the case for a USMNT player starting in his 2nd World Cup -- and I'm expecting Weah to start for us next year.

He is a occasional starter in a top 5 league but will need to step down if he wants to be a everyday starter

Yeah, and to be clear, I don't think that stat means he's less talented or accomplished than other USMNT players. (It doesn't necessarily even mean he's played fewer minutes, if you count cup and CL appearances.)

But he's just been ambitious with his club selections, and as a result he's never been more than a rotational player anywhere, over the course of any single season. And I think that is pretty rare for a player who has been a presumptive starter for the USMNT for close to 4 years now.

step down in terms of club, not necessarily league. He's played for league winners/ucl qualifiers.

Who's saying we have a crappy talent pool? It's just not nearly as good as some people think it is.

As noted, around the low 20s doesn't seem that off to me at all. There's some talent there, but there's some huge gaps once you get down to positional elements and role definitions and our spotty health record exacerbates that.

I don't think anyone thinks the current performance is even to that talent level (20s), but the people who think we are knocking on the door of contending are smoking something.
