While everyone will be watching the Greatest Failure competition at noon, we got some nervous YA action today in the Ligue 1 relegation playoffs as Pefok and Reims take on Metz.
Metz 1-1 Reims. Don’t know if any weird rules on ties but imo guess it’s basically 0-0 going back to Reims
If Tanner Tessman's Olympique Lyon have qualified for the Europa League, it may affect Chris Richards' Crystal Palace, as John Textor is the biggest shareholder in both clubs.
I am absolutely fascinated at how many Manchester United jerseys are going to be burned over the next few days
I am absolutely fascinated by what Jim Ratcliffe's next phase of cost cutting at Old Trafford will involve.
I recall that in the sponsor deals ManUnited has there's a clause that costs them a hundred million BP, if they fail to play CL three years in a row. I don't follow them, so I dunno if they still have that clause and how much it will cost them now. When that clause was mentioned was when the special one prevented it by beating Ajax in the EL final.
Im going to probably throw a fair hundred at Reno or Vegas for Man U to get relegated next season just on principle. Its not even that brave of a bet anymore
The thing is they should be somewhat better next year once they have some players that actually fit Amorim‘s system. Not top of the league better but not as bad as this year. Amorim has a somewhat unique setup which is part of the reason Liverpool didn’t go for him as they were concerned they would need to make too many changes to the team to fit what he does best. Man U also didn’t really have a squad that fit his system either but that should improve after some summer purchases somewhat.
But didn’t UEFA already allow both Girona and Man City to play in the Champions League in the same year? Yeah, Europa League is a different competition, but it’s still UEFA in charge. So if either Palace or Lyon get kicked down into Conference League, can’t they argue the precedent has already been set?
Everyone knows the Man City bylaws……… everton will lose 12 points on the sheer principle of man city being insulted
Yeah same thing with the Red Bull teams. It was a bit of a joke in terms of how teams have complied but UEFA has not enforced too closely. Was also an issue with Man U and Nice I believe.
They're not going down. The teams coming up are at a huge disadvantage financially in comparison to the teams currently in the EPL. For as bad as Man United have been this season, they're still 14 points above the relegation line. Because of PSR, Leeds isn't going to be able to spend like drunken sailors. Burnley doesn't have the funds, and also has never spent big on players either. Sunderland and Sheffield United aren't going to spend big either. So who among them are going to survive let alone knock Man United out?
What’s going to happen is they’ll be better but not close to the Champions League. Which will lead to Amorim getting fired after they’ve remade the roster for his system. And then a new coach will come in (Pochettino post World Cup?) with a team that doesn’t fit the way they want to play. And we repeat the cycle over again.
The next coach needs to be involved for two cycles even if that means appointing Matt Crocker's third cousin, once removed.
Since Ferguson left the longest a coach has been there is 2 and half seasons (which was Solskjaer). And he was pretty dead man walking by the end (and probably gets fired sooner if not for his history with the club). The problem is no one can sustain being coach there if they aren’t close to Champions League contention. It is a very possible post World Cup destination for Pochettino since he’s circled that job for what seems like forever. Though if I were them I would go for Eddie Howe (and would have in lieu of Amorim also).
In the odd event you’re not watching Serie A judgement day and you’re a madman, betis and Johnny close out regular season against Valencia at noon
