So Sunderland narrowed the pitch prior to match day to try snd take away Coventry strength in width. They’ve also apparently waterlogged the field with the excessive use of sprinklers. Apparently the ball is barely bouncing as a result. I freely admit I admire that subtle shithousery.
Incorrect. What they actually did was move the advertising hoardings closer to the pitch to stop Cov's long throws. Sunderland have moved their advertising boards closer to the pitch to stop Coventry's long throws ahead of their playoff semi-final clash today. Also, the heating was left on in Coventry's locker room despite it being a sweltering (for Sunderland) 53 degrees Fahrenheit.

I saw him play RB a few times and he was just a guy, which is surprising because usually , MFs playing FB add some spice going forward.
I watched the first half and he had some bright moments. The team would do better to get him more touches I’d say, as he tends to make good passing choices. I wish Tessman had stayed, I think they’d be safe.
He was included in the Eredivisie team of the month in January. I guess Feyenoord found his Kryptonite.
I think the league found his kryptonite. He's alright. He seems like a guy who'd be good, versatile role player off the bench for a team like PSV. Ledezma's contract is expiring. PSV, so far, hasn't extended him. The scuttlebutt is that he's going to Liga MX. Chivas has been the club mentioned. We'll see, though. And, of course, he's available to the world on a free transfer right now. Anybody can sign him on a pre-contract agreement. So far, they haven't. For years and years and years, we haven't really known what to make of Ledezma. I still don't. I'm told he's a better offensive fullback than defender. Then I look at his stats for this season, and he has one assist across all competitions. You look up a scouting report for Ledezma and it says "He's known for his technical skills, ability to keep the ball stuck to his feet, and his playmaking abilities." OK. Great. One assist in over 2500 minutes. He's not a 17 year old prospect. He'll turn 25 soon.
The counting stats were fine I’m sure but I didn’t see anything to excite me for the USMNT. I’m sure most MLS starting FBs would look good for PSV beating up on bums. Brooks Lennon would have 20 assists.
I have no problem with Ledezma moving to LMX or switching to Mexico. He was anonymous at NYC and only started so often because of injuries and Sands' loan to Rangers.
Yeah, I would love to see a really good interview with Richy and actually, Alex Mendez. Both were really offensive forces at the youth level, both for club and country. When they went abroad, I think a lot of the questions were defensive, especially for Mendez. They both went over, both really worked on their defense and toughness, and got high marks for that. But the offense really disappeared. And so the question is why? Were they simply not that skilled / good at the offensive side, and when they went from the American game to the Netherlands, they didn't stand out? Did so much focus on the defensive side of the game blunt their offensive effectiveness? Did they struggle to develop because of cultural elements, or because their team didn't invest in them or were there simply better players? This, of course, requires some real introspection. I know Richy had his injury, but even with Jong PSV, I don't know that he ever looked quite as impressive as he did with the US. And when he got his shot with NYCFC, it wasn't simply anything physical -- the skill elements, particularly the passing, were pretty lacking. And that's on a team that should have showcased it. Mendez, I know, we were all skeptical due to athleticism. But he went from rotational in Portugal to not playing at Juarez. I'd be curious to watch his path versus Jack McGlynn's - a similar player with a different career path.
Those two are very different. Mendez never, ever, ever looked like a good enough athlete for the highest levels. If even I can see that, you know the player is in trouble. One of the Kleiban disciples that was technique-first, athleticism-second. I'll never forget what the Kleibans said about Weston McKennie. Very few on this board have said anything as wrong as the Kleibans said about Weston McKennie. Lost all credibility. Or at least should have.
Yes, they are different. Both interesting to me, and they do have similarities in that their apparent strength disappeared rather than having their supposed weaknesses keep them off the pitch. What is interesting about Mendez to me is that in his time at Portugal, there was plenty of conversation about how he was defending well enough to play now ... but his offense disappeared. That's what is interesting to me. Richy's a very different player but is now playing a defensive position and given several chances, the offense never really materialized. Contrast that with a much more talented Gio Reyna, who has struggled with PT both with injuries but also his defense but the offense never really struggled. It's just interesting to me and I'd love to hear their take when they get far enough away to be introspective about it. It's great that you -- and everyone -- questioned Mendez' athleticism, but that wasn't what my post was about. But kudos to you, I guess?
1 hour til Eredivise starts up. PSV have a real chance of pulling ahead today given recent form of them and Ajax Copa Italia final between AC Milan and Bologna starts at noon as well
The fact that they didn’t admit they were wrong later is what really killed credibility for me. We all have misses. I was sure Gloster was going to fix our LB problem.
The nasty vitriolic comments often aimed at teenagers for the terrible crime of not being their pupils is what did it for me. Gary and the other dude on the twitter account are just complete assholes, and Brian gets it from me because he's the only one with real credibility and he simply let them be dicks.
That is just homer talk. Dest only had 6 assists last year in 25 matches. Lennon does not have the skillset to be a FB the way PSV plays, there is not a whole lot of getting to the endline and swinging in crosses.
