Some notes from an Equalizer post on UEFA WCL: European debutant KKPK Medyk Konin of Poland features American/Croatian defender Helenna Hercigonja-Moulton, who The Equalizer featured in May. Hercigonja-Moulton transferred to the Polish side from Croatian side Dinamo Maksimir of Zagreb after finishing college in Croatia. Apollon Ladies FC of Cyprus also advanced from the preliminary round of the Women’s Champion’s League — for the fifth consecutive year — with three Americans on their roster during the preliminary phase. Defender Michelle Cruz played at the University of Portland and with the U.S. and Puerto Rico at the youth level. Midfielder Carlie Davis and forward Hanna Gilmore both played at Baylor University. Gilmore trained with the Chicago Red Stars in NWSL in 2013 and the Boston Breakers in 2014, while Davis was a practice squad player for the Portland Thorns both seasons. Gilmore scored against Gintra Universitetas of Lithuania in August. Apollon have added five more Americans before the round of 32 begins next month: Washington Spirit midfielder Yael Averbuch, Portland Thorns FC forward Danesha Adams, Sky Blue FC midfielder Ashley Nick, Boston Breakers midfielder Mollie Pathman and Seattle Reign backup goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer. Scotland’s Glasgow City FC had four imports: ... American midfielder Ella Stephan, who played at Florida State U, Pali Blues (W-League) and New England Mutiny (WPSL). A new addition on loan for the fall is FC Kansas City forward Morgan Marlborough (who scored two goals in nine games for the Blues). A few teams who did not advance to the next round had North Americans on their squads. Finland’s Aland United’s defender Katie Kelly (ex-Marquette University) played seven matches for FC Kansas City in 2013, after spending time with FC Indiana (WPSL) and Kristianstads in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan. Forward Megan Lindsay (ex-Seattle Pacific University), who won a title last season in Iceland with USF Stajrnan, was also in the mix. U.S. forward Monica Dolinksy has played professionally in Finland and Sweden after her collegiate career at the University of Kansas. Former University of Missouri midfielder Janelle Cordia played three years with Aland before transferring this season to Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark. ASA Tel-Aviv University SC had 23-year-old defender Dana Schwartz. Schwartz, a native of Tennessee, played from 2009-2012 at Vanderbilt. [Not to be confused with the Dana Schwartz of USC, who is also an Israeli dual citizen]. http://womens.soccerly.com/2014/10/09/liverpool-win-debut-frankfurt-shocked-in-ucwl-action/
There was rumor that Kristie Mewis was heading to Japan based on her twitter but no confirmation yet.
Per the USSF Roster Notes, Mewis is in training camp for first week: Alyssa Naeher will be training with the team as a third goalkeeper during the duration of the tournament, but will not be a part of the official game roster. Defender Julie Johnston and midfielder Kristie Mewis will train with the U.S. team for a week in Kansas City, but will depart camp before the competition begins. So look for more details on this next week, if it is true. Seems like a great move for her.

No Jess McDonald, but Lydia Hastings starts for Herforder: 529992431555846144 is not a valid tweet id
What is the deal with McDonald?!? Other NWSL players are playing over there even if she is under contract..........
Apparently the federation was unhappy about when McDonald was set to return to the NWSL next year. Her contract with Herforder would have her staying in Germany until after the NWSL season started, and the federation wants her back by mid-March. So until it's resolved, she's not playing. My two cents: I seriously doubt the fed would be making such a big deal about it if she were playing for a different NWSL team. And since she had to get an ITC to play in Germany, they would have had to agree with the term of her stay overseas. So I'm not sure the fed has much of a case here.
I'm still confused. Is she or is she not a full fledged "free agent". i.e she is NOT under contract with any NWSL team, and no team retains her rights, since she didn't renew her contract? I just don't see how the fed, has any say, unless she is somehow contract still to the NWSL in some fashion?!? Thanks so far for the info BC! Still kinda new to the women's game.
The only reason the USSF would object is if it is likely she is still under contract. The fed controls the ITC, so they did not issue one to her team in Germany, preventing her from playing. Undoubtedly, this is another disagreement over the team option year clause.
Mewis scored the only goal in a critical match to keep her team from relegation: Kristie and former Breaker Rachel (Buehler) Van Hollebeke joined Iga, trying to help the team avoid relegation from the top-flight L-1 League. This weekend, Iga plays in the return leg of a two-match series against Nittaidai. Iga won last weekend, 1-0, and with a result Nov. 23, the team will remain in L-1. Mewis played a huge role in giving Iga a 1-0 advantage on aggregate. She scored the game-winner in the 92nd minute in last weekend's win. Mewis' experience on the field doesn't end with her match against Nittaidai. Following Iga's game this weekend, the club plays on Dec. 6, in the first game of the Empress Cup. http://bostonbreakerssoccer.com/NEWS/848472.html
http://www.nwslsoccer.com/home/849836.html So I guess she is just on loan, and still under contract with the Thorns?!?
