For other Yanks in the W-League: Melbourne City FC 2-1 Canberra United The injury-time tally prevented on-loan Dash goalkeeper Lydia Williams from picking up her second consecutive shutout to start the season. The Australia international made five saves in the match to help MCFC win their 14th consecutive regular-season match. Seattle Reign FC defender Lauren Barnes and SRFC midfielder Jess Fishlock both started and had assists as they played the full 90 minutes for Melbourne City in the win – with Barnes setting up Alleway for the opening goal and Fishlock providing the pass on the goal by Ayers. Dash player Stephanie Ochs and Portland Thorns FC forward Hayley Raso featured for Canberra United in the loss. Newcastle Jets 4-0 Melbourne Victory Washington Spirit defender Megan Oyster and Chicago Red Stars defender Arin Gilliland both scored within the first 14 minutes to pace Newcastle Jets to a 4-0 thumping of Melbourne Victory. Oyster struck first in the 8th minute before Gilliland got in on the action with a tally in the 14th minute as Newcastle put three past Houston Dash goalkeeper Bianca Henninger in the first half as the Jets rebounded from a Week 1 loss. Washington Spirit goalkeeper Kelsey Wys made three saves to earn the shutout for her loan club. Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory conceded three goals or more for the second straight game to start the season. Boston Breakers forward Natasha Dowie and Chicago Red Stars defender Samantha Johnson both got the start for Melbourne, with Dowie unable to replicate her two-goal performance from the season opener and Johnson being subbed off at halftime. Red Stars forward Jen Hoy was also taken off in the second half after starting and playing 63 minutes for Newcastle. Sydney FC 2-0 Western Sydney Wanderers Seattle Reign FC defender Kendall Fletcher and FC Kansas City defender Alexa Arlitt and Washington Spirit forward Katie Stengel all featured for Western Sydney Wanderers in the loss. Brisbane Roar 0-0 Perth Glory Sky Blue FC midfielder Nikki Stanton as well as Chicago Red Stars players Vanessa DiBernardo and Alyssa Mautz were all included in the starting lineup for Perth Glory as they played to a scoreless draw against Brisbane Roar. Maddy Evans, who played 1,108 minutes over 16 appearances (12 starts) with the Orlando Pride in 2016, started and played all 90 minutes for Brisbane in the draw. http://nwslsoccer.com/nwsl-abroad-the-weekend-recap
Replying to myself to say that the feed for WSW and SFC was on ESPN3 this weekend. So either there just weren't any matches due to be broadcast the first weekend of W-League, or it took an extra week to get it worked out. So, looking forward to more opportunities. This game started at the humane time of 10:30p ET, hopeful to see more of that, too!.
Good luck to the @FCBfrauen, who have just kicked off in their @UWCL last-16 second leg against FC Rossiyanka. It's 4-0 on aggregate 💪 #UWCL pic.twitter.com/fZKQox1Uhx— FC Bayern Munich (@FCBayernEN) November 17, 2016
More on Crystal Dunn's potential move: If that’s truly the goal – if Dunn’s willing to leave some money on the table -- what are her best options? The Swedish league has been a steady destination for U.S. talent, but it doesn’t offer the same level and depth of competition as Germany’s Frauen Bundesliga, which has the best claim beyond the NWSL to being the top league in the world. The technical and tactical demands of Germany outstretch any of Dunn’s other options, potentially giving her the greatest chance to improve. England, which may be Europe’s closest stylistically to the NWSL, is also an option, particularly with a short spring season (as the league switches to a fall-to-spring schedule) on the horizon. With the competition between Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal peaking at the top of the Super League, Dunn would have no problem finding a place to provide smooth competitive and cultural transitions. Of all Dunn’s options, the best fit seems to be Lyon, with Dunn admitting, when talking about the club and its league, “it’s something on my radar.” Able to offer wages above $200,000 per year -- roughly four to five times as much as Dunn would make from U.S. Soccer by staying in the NWSL -- the French titans offer a unique combination of financial incentives, Champions League play, and unparalleled talent in the squad. (For context, U.S. midfielder Megan Rapinoe made $14,000 per month at Lyon from 2013-14.) http://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/featu...ton-spirit-analysis-uswnt#Ucm77LoKWi8JCbWm.99

The Philippines has launched a new league for women. The PFF Women’s League has 11 teams, either college teams (which is extremely important in the Philippines) or post-grad. We can expect to see some Fil-Am players in the league. Hiraya FC 4 – 0 Kaya FC Daryl Ann Mendoza 24′ (Hiraya FC) A different accounts says it was an assist, not a goal: Vanessa Anne Fabon opened the scoring for Hiraya in the 24th thanks to a nifty through ball from Daryl Ann Mendoza. Mendoza appears to have played her college ball in The Philippines. W-League recap: Newcastle Jets defeated Perth Glory 1-0 before a home crowd of 3,650. A Jen Hoy (Chicago Red Stars) penalty just after half time was all the scoring that the Jets needed. Hoy left the game after 65 minutes. Fellow American goalkeeper Kelsey Wys (Washington Spirit) fell awkwardly and had to be substituted in the 12th minute with a torn ACL. Arin Gilliland (Chicago Red Stars) and Megan Oyster (who just this week was traded from the Washington Spirit to the Boston Breakers) played 90 minutes for the winners. For Perth, Alyssa Mautz (Chicago Red Stars), Nikki Stanton (Sky Blue FC) and Vanessa Di Bernardo (Chicago Red Stars) all started, with Di Bernardo subbing out in the 73rd minute. Mexican international defender Arianna Romero (ex-Houston Dash) and Australian international Sam Kerr (Sky Blue FC) also played 90 minutes for Perth. Western Sydney Wanderers won their first game of the season by defeating Adelaide United at home 2-1, with American import Paige Nielsen (Seattle Reign FC) scoring the late winner five minutes from the final whistle. American forward Katie Stengel (Washington Spirit) scored her first W-League goal in her second game for the Wanderers in the 59th minute. For the Wanderers, Americans Kendall Fletcher (Seattle Reign FC), Alex Arlitt (FC Kansas City), Nielsen and Stengel all played 90 minutes. Danielle Colaprico, Sofia Huerta and Katie Naughton (all three from Chicago Red Stars) did the same. Paige Nielsen’s 85th minute winner was her first goal in Red & Black. Canberra United surprised host Brisbane Roar, winning 1-0. Canberra now has a 6-9-5 (W-L-T) all-time record in this battle of traditional powerhouses, who have eight Grand Finals appearances between them in eight W-League seasons. NWSL loanees Hayley Raso and Celeste Boureille (both Portland Thorns FC) played the entire match, while Jasmyne Spencer (Orlando Pride) subbed out at half-time with an apparent ankle injury and Stephanie Ochs (Houston Dash) left the game in injury time. For the Roar, Maddy Evans (Orlando Pride) played 90 minutes. Sydney FC defeated Melbourne Victory on the road 2-1 for the Sky Blues second consecutive win in front of a gate of 339. Victory are now bottom of the table with Adelaide United on 1 point and must turn things around quickly to avoid another disappointing season, having finished bottom last season. For Melbourne, Bianca Henninger (Houston Dash), Samantha Johnson (Chicago Red Stars), Christine Nairn (Seattle Reign) and Dowie all played the entire match. Last Saturday has been the first match day in italian SerieA for 2 players from USA: The midfielder Rebekah Roller (who has a past in Finland and I think a short stint for Chicago Red Stars too) played 60' in the Mozzanica 3-2 win away vs. Luserna; after 7 matches, her team is 6th with 12 points. The GK Emily Dolan (formerly Lancaster Inferno in WPSL-UWS) played all 90' in the 1-3 defeat of her team San Zaccaria, vs. Verona; currently the club is 7th in the table with 6 points. Here's a photo of the latter player in her new kit: Asked how she came playing in Italy, the girl said that did all by herself, withouth the help of an agency, just sending e-mails and video clips...good job !
Alyssa Giannetti interview: http://www.everybodysoccer.com/even...rican-sets-standard-in-norways-premier-league You won Goalkeeper of the Year in the Toppserien as a rookie, putting yourself in a small but elite group of American goalkeepers who have earned such an award. How has your game changed over the past year? Once I got acclimated to the speed of play, I began to play a lot more confidently. Every time I put my cleats on I would tell myself that I was there for a reason and I needed to show that. Goalkeeper is such a mental position that coming into a match with the right mindset is just as important as being physically fit. I began to emphasize playing to my strengths during matches in order to increase my chances of having a favorable outcome. While it seems fairly common in the men's game for a player to go overseas at some point in his career, it doesn't happen as near as much on the women's. From someone who has now done it, what are the advantages of going overseas as opposed to staying in the US? One huge advantage of going abroad is being able to experience a new culture and live in a different part of the world. You get to live and experience life as a local in your perspective country, which is an opportunity very few people get to have. In most cases, playing abroad allows you to live pretty comfortably and not have to worry about getting a second job. They do a really good job of taking care of their foreign players.
