Magee says he's fit enough for matchday. Yallop says he's not. Rumors swirling about a pregame bustup in LA last week. Trouble in Fireland.— Charles Boehm (@cboehm) March 16, 2014
For what its worth, Guillermo Rivera also tweeted saying that rumor doesn't fit with what he has heard
Don't you find it a little odd that Magee has claimed he's healthy and ready to go? Or the fact that we had no comments from Magee regarding his health the last 10 days? Magee is healthy unless he says otherwise.
Not really. Magee would hardly be the first player to think he's fit enough to play who has been held out as a precautionary measure. Especially since we were playing on turf. Magee is like Pause (I can hear thr heart attacks happening) in that both would play through any injury as long as they can stand. Its Yallops job as coach to make a judgment, is it worth playing a player who may not be 100% match fit in the second game of the season? Its a long season, and Magee is vital to our success. I'm fine with Yallop being overly cautious.
You just latch on to the company line hook, line and sinker. I'm fine with overly cautious, but that's the cover story, I give it about a 5% chance of being true. If Yallop was truly overly cautious then why would he play Magee in the Desert Diamond Cup? Because that's not the reason Magee isn't playing.
I believe it's coming from higher up on the food chain than Yallop. This smells of Dollar Menu, telling Yallop not to play him. You want to hold out and ask for more money, have you forgotten about Grazzini. I'm the owner of this team, what I say goes. To win the CUP.... KINGS of preseason.....
Here's a list of possible reasons. I have no real knowledge to say which is true. 1)Yallop is just lying, and injury isn't the real problem 2) 20 minutes in what amounts to a friendly is different than a competitive match, Yallop felt comfortable playing him in a game where players were not required to go 100%, and tackles would not be as tough. 3) Magee's condition got worse between then and now 4) Yallop used that game to assess the fitness of a player who had not been in camp, and made a decision to rest him You can claim that its 1, but it just as likely could be any of 2-4. So far we have two people claiming to have knowledge. One says there was a bust-up, the other says not. Without actual evidence to the contrary, yes I'll accept the company line. I don't tink there is any real contradiction between Magee saying he is fit enough to play, and Yallop saying he isn't. As I said, Magee would hardly be the first player to disagree with a medical staff's assessment. So the evidence so far is: Yallop says he isn't playing Magee for health reasons Magee says he wasn't ever holding out Everything else, in my view, is all just so many rumors.
This would be my guess since he went from the 18 against Chivas to not in it against Portland. I don't think Yallop would have had him in the 18 if he weren't willing to play him.
Or he refuses to give in and sign a contract or otherwise "play ball" with what the ownership/leadership wants (like being moved to the midfield). Your guess is as good as mine, but unless he had been working out strenuously witht he Club between ChivasUSA and Portland, I am not sure how it would have gotten worse. Still, as someone said earlier, his silence is deafening.
Pretty sure Magee has been interviewed on video in the last week, though I can't find the video immediately. This video is from two weeks ago: http://www.chicago-fire.com/video/2...oots-down-hold-out-talk-ready-face-chivas-usa
FYP since your original statement was just stupid. Almost every player would play through any injury as long as they can stand. That is what athletes are "born and bred" , or at least trained from a very young age to do. That's why football (pointball) players live with traumatic brain injuries, why baseball players inject themselves with steroids, HGHs, and g' knows what else, why hockey players "play for the sweater and the organIzation", etc.
Jeff Crandall @jefecrandall 1h .@Magee9: “instead of letting hamstring linger all year it was best for me to not play & try to get rid of [injury] completely” #cf97 #MLS
Sorry @cboehm but I've yet to have 1 dispute or "bust up" of any sort with @FrankYallop #truth #cf97 #MLS pic.twitter.com/RaOafBBbCm— Mike Magee (@magee18) March 19, 2014 He also said he wasn't expecting to play against Portland. Feel free to interpret that as "I wasn't allowed to play in Portland." Thats probably the truth, but I don't think it is for any conspiratorial reasons
