Yallop told a SJ fan at the season ending celebration party that he'd know by Tuesday, December 9th if he'd be accepting the Canadian offer. Keep your eyes peeled for any announcement and inform us ASAP, ok? Quake fans want to know.....
A Vancouver radio station today apparently reported that the announcement will be made by the CSA fairly soon.
When you say "announcement", are you saying that the CSA will talk about Yallop specifically or announce the name of the new coach?
It is expected that they will announce that Yallop will be the new Canadian coach. I'm not from Vancouver & didn't hear the radio report, but this is what was reporterd on the Voyageurs board (www.canadian-soccer.com). It isn't official until it actually happens, but all of the signs are pointing strongly in this direction.
This is in line with what Chris Bergin reported earlier in the week. Yallop is a great choice for Canada and while Canada has a tough road to hoe in qualifying, Frank will have them ready and playing to their best. Canada will instantly become not only my 2nd favorite team in CONCACAF, but in the world. (I'll have to push Scotland and even Argentina down a notch. ) Good luck Canadian fans!! Though my Quakes will definitely miss him and the "Yallop era" will be over.
The CSA has officially announced the press conference to announce the new coach for Dec.16th (tuesday) - in Vancouver.
Ya I'll be cheering for Canada every game except against the US. Would love to see the Canadians do well. Yallop is the man for the job too.
Thanks for the good sentiments. Although the official announcement won't be made until Tuesday, radio stations in both Vancouver & Toronto are reporting that Yallop for Canada is a done deal. Canada's holding another training camp in Florida in January, probably the first thing Yallop will do as coach, followed by possible friendly against Barbados. But I suspect it will be like the training camp we held there last January, with most of our top players missing due to club committments in Europe - that's what led to us sending a 3rd string (at best) side to get spanked 4-0 by you guys.
This is going to be one of the biggest challenges to Yallop. While I have little doubt he'll figure out the best players, it's going to be hard for them to all get on the same page. Yallop's system requires incredible fitness. Didn't the previous coach get savaged by the players because of his insistance of fitness training to the exclusion of tactics? If they were tired of running then, just wait until Yallop gets done with them....
This is currently a problem for Canada in that a significant number of players are off season at any given time - the Scandavian and MLS?A-League scheduels do not jive with the rest of Europe. Holger's problem is that you are not going to get a team "fit" in a three day camp, but you can a lot of work towards getting them on the same page tactically. This should have been the sole focus of his training given the short periods of time that his teams would be together. With any luck, we will see our Scandavian players move in the near future. Pozniak, apparently is one the verge of doing so and Hutchinson undoubtedly withinin the next year or so. Ibid with DeRosario (no offence to San Jose which is a good team for him skill wise, but not so good in terms of getting him on the same calender as the rest of the Canadian Squad).
In case anyone is still not aware, the announcement of Yallop as the new Canadian Men's National team coach was made official today.
The US seems to be able to deal with different seasons. Dwayne just needs to keep himself in shape like any professional athlete should. If he wants to stay in San Jose let him, I see no reason (unless he wants to leave) that he should cross the pond. Thats just my opinion.
With Yallop as your new coach you guys might actually qualify for 2006 I think Yallop might bring Canada to the promise land. You guys have the talent and now you have the coach. I rather see you guys go than MEXICO!!!!

To me I believe that Canada made a strong and good choice hiring Yallop. I believe he could be the Bruce Arena of Canada. Before Brucie went to coach the US He won two MLS Cups in three years. Frank Yallop for San Jose two MLS Cups in three years. Happy for a good man going back home to run his country for the chance to get into the World Cup. Congratulations Canada. You made a good choice.
