I just tried to access the Yahoo World Soccer page which I had bookmarked in my browser. Apparently Yahoo has made a format change on their sports website. I had to access the generic sports page then choose "more" across the options at the top of the page which includes the likes of NFL, MLB, NHL, etc., where only when redirected to another page listing the so called "more" sports could I click on an link to access their World Soccer website. What irks me is that (and this may be old news for some) is the fact that you cannot reach the "World Soccer" or "MLS" portion of Yahoo sports via their main sports page. On their original sports mainpage at least there was a link to World Soccer and from there one could jump to the MLS portion. Now there is none! Also their World Soccer website itself is a watered down version of the original. I hope it improves as the changes are finalized. I thought Yahoo was a sponsor of MLS? I know that many casual sports fans access Yahoo Sports. I just wish soccer was given the recognition it deserves. (I know some may be thinking then go to another website, which I probably will. I am just concerned over the fact that were not going to be seen by the casual sport fan surfing Yahoo Sports.)
i saw this and was annoyed as well... i am hoping it is just b/c they are in the process of changing things up.
I hope that's the reason; otherwise, I'll be very upset as Yahoo! had the best MLS stats (various split stats, far beter than mlsnet)
Ditto. When I first saw it, World Soccer led to a broken link. Now you can at least get to it. I figure they are working the bugs out, which is stupid, IMHO, but I can deal.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/ No MLS content on the redesigned site. Let's send them a few hundred emails
IMHO I think we should give them a few more days to see if they put up a new redesiged MLS page. Meanwhile, what you should send them an e-mail about is not having a direct link to World Soccer page on their main sports page.
It's not a part of their main, left-side navigation. ESPN previously used this setup where they would rotate around the in-season sports. That still doesn't explain why they have no MLS content up following the draft. As for the World page, http://sports.yahoo.com/top/gen/moresports the content seems to be pretty US-heavy. That's unfortunate.
Yahoo's US server seems to have stopped using Reuters for soccer news. Reuters had been providing about 80% of their soccer news. Yahoo provides 7 sites in English and many more non-English. For a complete listing, see: http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/w/ If you are looking for alternative world soccer news sites then check out: http://hoflink.com/~npollock/soccermenu.html
MLS headlines are still a part of my "my.yahoo.com" page but none of the links work. The headlines were last updated on January 17th. In the past, if one of the sections of my.yahoo.com was discontinued they would post a notice in the section and they haven't done so yet. I wouldn't get too freaked out about this. Some of their other sports links are currently unavailable as well. I left feedback to ask why the links don't work and if you want to do the same you can do so here. http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/sports/cgi_feedback
Now they're just trying to piss me off. They keep adding new MLS headlines to my.yahoo.com but every single one of them goes nowhere. I sent feedback but got an automated response that had nothing to do with the broken links. Lame.
i have the mls links working for my my.yahoo page... they have been updating and even had the jmm stuff... in addition, i have my personal scoreboard selected to provide the results for every mls team (along with my st. louis cardinals and blues, chicago bears, and the illini b-ball and football) on my page, i have an mls set of news links and 2 world soccer set of news links (each set will contain 5 or wire stories)
Have you clicked on the links to see if they actually work? My world soccer links are fine but none of the MLS headlines work. There are new updated MLS headlines but when I click them they don't work.
Make sure you write Yahoo and let them know...I usually get a response from them in a day or two. I had requested Fantasy Serie A, and after initially learning that they would not run a league, they followed up with Italian and English versions of the game. Request an MLS link on the Sports Page. Request a Fantasy MLS league for this year.
Trust me on this...it's still a work in progress. Over the next couple of weeks things will be updated. I have very inside information on this.
The links from "my.yahoo" are now working for me and there is once again content (with working links) at: http://sports.yahoo.com/mls. The Yahoo! Sports listing, http://sports.yahoo.com/top/gen/moresports, still has MLS grayed out, though. genpabloescobar, does your inside information include any news on whether Yahoo! will run an MLS fantasy or Pick'em game this year?
I've noticed the news has dried up as well. As far as receiving a reply from Yahoo......good luck. When I've used their feedback form, I have rarely received an answer.
I'm betting no. Yahoo used to do the official game but it was taken over by Smallworld (I think). I hope they do for selfish business reasons, but I have heard nothing to indicate that they will.
