I hope that wasn't it. For someone who can't get digital cable, Yahoo! Platinum was the next best thing.
http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/mls0514yahoo.html This article says that it was a multi-year deal, but now word on how long.
For this reason and others. But it sounds like it'll come back. It's a little more expensive than the shootout, but accessible from anywhere. The archived feature was a little nice as well, but (flames aside), I wish they could have hidden the results.
One big issue for me with Yahoo Platinum was that I couldn't watch Rapids games in Denver. You could probably tinker with your location information to get around this, but it's still just a nuisance. I hope they work this out though. High Speed Internet options are getting better and cheaper. Cable and Satellite in Denver aren't getting cheaper or better.
Really? I live less than an hour from DC and I was able to watch every DC game broadcast on Yahoo! Platinum. What a pisser.
platinum i really hope they bring it back for someone whos on a college campus and can't get the shootout/satellite from his dorm. its so convienient with having Ethernet on caampus.
Here's how it went for me. If Columbus played at home, I couldn't watch live, but I could watch the archived broadcast. But i'd just go to the game, anyway. If Columbus played away and it was on local TV or ESPN2, it wasn't on YP. All the other away Columbus games happened to be on HDnet or not televised, so there were actually very few (if any) Columbus away games on YP.
i thought this had been gone over before with the consensus being that the games would stay and yahoo platinum would just be called something else
Re: platinum Exactly. I loved it, because for those of us who can't get FSW or PPV, there are precious few options for watching soccer...
How much was Yahoo Platinum? IIRC, it was 10 bucks a month. That pretty much priced me out of the deal, as the only reason I would have bought it was for the MLS Games. I figured 10 bucks a month just wasn't worth it. Anybody have any idea how much it will be next year?
Yeah, it was 9.95 exact per month last year. If you subscribed at the right time (so that your billing period had as many games in it as possible), you could get your "cost per game" down to 40 cents. If you bought the whole season, you'd end up paying more than the shootout (TV) price, but I only ended up subscribing for June, July and playoffs, so it was worth it for me. But it's still a great option for people who can't get the shootout. I just wish they could add MLS Wrap. If they could figure out how to add HDnet games so we'd see the whole screen instead of having the sides cut off, that would be great too.
Just don't go to school in a different state, and pay with a credit card from home in your local team market. They screwed me over cause I go to school in Boston, but have a credit card that goes to NY. So they wouldn't let me watch Metro games live even though I was 300 miles from NY.
