I did a search, and I didn't get any threads, and I subscribed to to Yahoo Platinum to watch my Salukis at work during the tournament, and I didn't see this then, so maybe I missed it before, but... Yahoo Platinum has MLS. http://platinum.yahoo.com/sp/mls/ Live games and past matches - no highlights from past matches, like they did for the NCAA tournament, but hey. If only MLS had day games. Of course, what I really want are Champions League matches on Yahoo Platinum, especially since ESPN has rights to games they don't even show, but I digress.
I don't quite understand this. Does this mean you can watch an entire game over the 'net via this service?
As far as I can tell... Yeah. Any damn time you want. Of course, I don't think MLS has a press release or anything up about this. Good work, guys.
Re: As far as I can tell... I seem to remember getting one a few weeks back. Naturally, I can't find it now.
Re: Re: As far as I can tell... Maybe the gnomes who steal the socks from dryers accidentally stole it back from you when MLS took the press release off their website. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=site:www.mlsnet.com+"yahoo!+platinum" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=site:www.mlsnet.com+"yahoo+platinum" EDIT - OK, I found half a sentence buried here: http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/mls0429yahoo.html
It's not "any damn game", they haven't added the new Fox Sports Ohio or the HDnet feed of the Crew@Wizards game. But still, this is interesting.... I wonder what the quality is. If it's a 200 pixel box, it won't be worth it.
I just got the "MLSnet.com's 90 Minutes" email and there was a link in the email about this service. WATCH MLS REGULAR SEASON MATCHES ONLINE WITH YAHOO PLATINUM For just $9.95 a month fans can watch MLS regular season matches via the internet through the Yahoo! Platinum SportsPak. Click on the link below to find out how you can experience MLS action online. Subscribe here: http://platinum.yahoo.com/sp/mls/
HOLY $%&#$@ ... It is PHENOMENAL. I'm in Germany, and I've already signed up. I'm staying up tonight and watching the Metros LIVE. For under $10/month, I said "what the hey": I watched the archived copy of last week's Chicago - K.C. game, and the quality is plenty good enough for me! Certainly enough to get a flavor for the game, appreciate the chess-like moves, recognize players at mid-range and appreciate the highlights in replay.
Oh my god-- you guys have no idea how great this is for me: as is, I get one MLS match a week Tuesdays at 3 or 4 in the morning... For the next week (when the EPL ends), I can waste my entire Saturday... noon-- 2am watching soccer...
So what is the resolution? I'm not going to get it - I've got the Shootout - but I'm curious to know what the video quality is.
Found a preview that give some idea of what it probably looks like ... http://platinum.yahoo.com/play/_promo/tour/demo/promo5
yeah the resolution is ok. I do get some trailing on moving players once and a while and the buffering is annoying, but if you live somewhere where you can't get shootout, this ain't bad for 10 bucks a month.
The 320x240 picture is fairly clean, but quite small for game viewing. If you opt for fullscreen mode, the picture really suffers. If I was unable to watch any MLS games on tv I would definitely pony up for this service. Otherwise, the money would seem better spent on MLS Shootout, if you can get it.
I'm in Europe, can't get jack else... and this is doing just FINE. Got up at 7 A.M., avoided viewing the score (on the right side of the screen!), hit the link, set it on "full screen" so I wouldn't see anything else, and screamed my head off at the 2-1 result over Colorado. I am imposing an embargo on myself to complain about ANYTHING that MLS HQ does the rest of this season, if only because I am infinitely grateful that I can watch Metros games "psuedo"-live this year due to MLS' negotiated contract with Yahoo!
I also highly recommend this service if you can't get the shootout package. I am watching MLS matches from Lithuania via Yahoo. The world is not such a big place any more.
This service is terrific for those that for whatever reason can't see the game. The matches are shown LIVE and are also archived in the event you can't see them live. There is also a whole host of other interesting non-MLS content. Seems like the predicted convergence of computer and tv is starting to pay off.
