More reading, more learning: Evidently Köglberger, who died in 2018, was the first Black player to appear for Austria, and one of the all-time greats of LASK Linz. His father was an American serviceman; he had no relationship with him and knew little about him at least as recently as 2014. More in this (German) obituary:

Wiki has him as having played his entire career for Austrian teams, LASK mostly.

This piece, also in German, adds more detail and more of his voice, including that he almost transferred to the Bundesliga, but it didn't happen.

This is his son, Stefan, an '83 who has played and coached at various levels.

    Thanks for posting these, Dave.

I, for one, find this stuff fascinating.
