    I was flipping threw the USL Media Guide, and there used to be a franchise called the Ohio Xoggz.

    What is a Xoggz?

    That brings me back. I used to go to Xoggz games back in the day.

    Never knew what one was though. Neither does Wikipedia.org.

    Unless there is a Eastern European language that I might have missed, I believe Xoggz is part of that US franchise culture of playing with the English phonetics. In this case:

    Socks = Xoggz.

    .....me thinks....

    I saw the Xoggz play (in Minnesota) and still have the ticket stub. From what I remember, Xoggz was a totally made-up name and they were supposed to have a contest at some point to decide what the name meant, but I don't think it ever happened. They faded into obscurity the 2nd year when they had to go head-to-head with the Crew and then quietly folded.

    I saw the Xoggs play the D-3 Chicago Stingers in 94 or 95, have no idea what it means, but they also had a team in the W-League called the Xiggs

    FWIW the owner had plans at one point to get a CFL team here and name.it The Rox.

    As in Columbus Rox. Get It? I hope so cause no way I'm repeating it.

    But the CFL expansion into the US never got traction. Sad. Or not.. Saved us all from having to figure out what a rouge is.

    And the Xoggz owner did not own the Ziggs. It was a cooperative venture but by a different ownership group. They actually stuck it out for a couple years after the Xoggz folded in 1997
