Hmmm... Waldo says Donovan was world-class...

... but Zavagnin was the best player on the field ...

    ... Kerry Zavagnin, world-class midfielder.

I'm still having trouble gettting Kerry Zavagnin, Metro Reject out of my head. I think Waldo might have slightly overstated things. But he had a very good game.

Jorge Campos' quote on the Meixco game:
"The United States had that luck at the last minute because I don't really think there was a lot of soccer played on the field. When a team has that luck they can win in any minute."

Jorge, I'm sorry you missed the fourteen shots the US took. Maybe you just didn't want to give your successor credit for making a couple of tough saves. Maybe you were bored because about a quarter of the game consisted of the US setting up one of a dozen or so corner kicks. Maybe you had an obstructed view where you couldn't see the US' offensive half of the field.

kinda suprised that Waldo didn't mention Mastro as a standout. I think the case could be made that he was the MOTM...

As for starting Freddy, maybe it would be a good idea to get it out of the way sooner rather than later, just so people would stop obsessing about it and let Nowak do what he's paid to do : first- win soccer games, then somewhere down the line, mold Adu for FUTURE greatness.

I was pretty surprised that Wynalda had positive things to say about the referee because he's so critical of MLS officiating.

Problem with that theory is, starting Freddy this weekend won't stop it. Start Freddy this week, start Eski the next week, and the story is: "CHILD ABUSE! NOVAK BENCHES ADU!" Novak can't try to outsmart the publicity machine. If he wins games, makes the playofss, etc., people will eventually shut up.

I'd say he had an obstructed view. He didn't even show up until about the 60th minute or so. Sat right in front of us on the Mexico bench. When we scored, he turned around and we were waving our flag in his face. It was sweet.

Guess Jorge just doesn't want to face the facts that the USMNT is just better than mexico. They have a .666 success rating against MEX under Bruce. I just sit here and rub my head and try to figure out how Mexico was ranked 4th in the world.

I guess it just brings out the realization that... pretty much no country in the world can compete with Brazil in international competition.

I understand how you feel, but I think Metros fans need to have Kerry Zavagnin as a Metro removed from their memory. He really is that good. (Okay, not world class, but he's been one of the best at his position for a few years and has been improving.)
