Mewis looks so strong on the ball. Is that her? Or is Sweden just pressuring ineffectively? Edit: Either way... those long passes of hers are just beautiful.
There are a few things that the US team is fairly poor at and one of them is actually hitting the goal from outside with power. There are WAY too many misses wide and/or high. That is usually indicative of poor practice methods. Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.
Surprised at how committed Sweden seems to high pressure. Haven't been punished yet by letting Heath and Rapinoe be open in space, but that won't last all game. The way they're playing is more likely to go to 2-0 before it gets to 1-1.
I used to really like Rapinoe, but I hate when she doesn’t score and immediately turns and yells at teammates.
The US need to take note that Sweden's goalkeeper is playing very poorly. She is punching a LOT of very catchable balls. They need to pepper her from distance (actually hitting the goal would help) and then follow up for the second and third ball. I think that would get another goal pretty quickly.
We need to be more composed out of the back. If I were scouting this team, I'd say pressure the hell out of us from time to time. We're not handling it.
OK... Ellis needs to make some changes here or we could end up tied. 1) Morgan out - this is a Lloyd game 2) Rapinoe out - shes done nothing and is too slow in case Ellis hasn't noticed. I vote for Press to take her place. Swap Mewis and Rose. Mewis is better in the middle, Rose better outside. Late game, if still 1-0, Heath out. Also done little productive. Nice dribbles but nothing comes of it. Maybe with Lloyd in there? Put Pugh in if she comes out Thats all!
what changes do we expect at half? i think a defensive sub is needed. Krieger for Dunn maybe? Morgan got roughed up a little. Wonder if they sub her out?
I'd replace Dunn, Rapinoe, and Lavelle (to save her legs) within the next 10 minutes. Bring in Davidson, Lloyd, and Press.
