The U.S. defense and midfield is afraid to have possession now. They’ve headed away the ball under no pressure umpteen times in the past couple minutes.
Very persistent infringement. At least three talking-tos from the ref in the last ten minutes before the yellow.
If they're going to be wasting time going to the corners, the US needs to be better organized with their back lines and have everyone back. They're half-assing this and it doesn't look good.
Traditionally, England get eliminated on penalty shootouts. A curveball on the same theme this year-- not a shootout, but missing 3 penalties over the tournament.
Until the red card, I would have said England got off easy from the reffing perspective. Getting the penalty reversal and being allowed to play WAY more physically, but losing the second goal to offside VAR and getting a late red ... feels fair.
England played dirty and stupid and was justly rewarded. We were almost as stupid by playing defensive too early and passive. This is the first time I have heard my granddaughters rooting for more red cards. (For England of course) The referee did not want to influence the game so she influenced the game by not making correct calls. This allowed the game to deteriorate to being more like a comedy of the absurd than a soccer match. Contrary to what many are saying the PK save was only OK, not great. The kick was so poorly taken that the only thing that would be news worthy would have been letting it in.
