90' 0-1 Nigeria right throw-in at box top, pinged around. Finally, foul on Nigeria. +3'.

90+1' (of +3') 0-1 Ebere longball up wide left, backpass to Solo.

90+2' (of +3') 0-1 USA longball to Leroux at 24m box right. She pulls up and ... backpass? USA ping in the back ...

After the red card, the US stopped playing & started just holding on. Nigeria kept going after it. And only some of the subs made any sense.

It's Ellis. One of her subs made sense. Doesn't this make it a better performance than usual on that basis?

Played 3 underwhelming matches but won the group. I'm optimistic for improvement . . . :cautious:

What is your obsession with Lloyd. If anyone needs to be subbed, it's Holiday. Did you just see her jogging out there with the ball and almost losing it in a tight spot in the middle of the field again? Lucky someone bailed her out by racing toward it.

As bad as USA was, they won group and Sweden looks way worse.

How many dangerous attacks did they have before the sub? And we had 51 percent of the ball vs Sweden and the possession was in their third. I fear none of these teams. The only teams I am worried about are the East Asian teams and Germany.

Well, holding on is what we needed to do to top the group. Nigeria had no choice to go after it and we shut them down.

I'm glad we received no more yellows or sustained any injuries. On to the next...

heh. true. I get that Rapinoe got pulled b/c of the card situation. But pulling both wide players (Rapinoe & Heath) didn't work b/c Klinger & Lloyd & Boxx & Holiday didn't adjust to playing two of the four wide. Poor direction w/ the subbing

Yeah, but they don't have Solo, Johnston and Rapinoe.

Nonsense. The keeper wasn't even forced into a single save after the subs. All of our chance creation happened in the first 70 minutes. It was an intelligent gameplan but we dominated before the subs. I think Morgan and Wambach should start in the knockouts and Press should start for Lloyd. We can sub up with Leroux/Arod and HAO for Press. The starting backline is the best in this tournament. I am happy with the first half considering the handball and all the saves their keeper was forced to make. Either it was a group of death or it wasnt. If it was then The team clicked today, If it wasn't then this team isn't that good. I think the R16 will be a goal festival where we shell some poor third place side by 5 goals.
