Yeah, Germany played two of the weakest sisters ever in the Groups and Sasic loaded up like she was playing in the Perinton Rec League.
When do you think it will dawn on these ladies that they are creating hope, pride and confidence in young girls throughout this country? That realization has to be just as rewarding as realizing you're the best in the world.
I am going to re-name my daughters. The 24-year old will be Carli1 and the 21-year old will be Carli2.
Hope looked pretty average out there yesterday. She was very static and late to just about everything. Maybe she wasn't feeling well, but it may be time to look at Harris.
The only thing I've ever agreed with Newsouth on is that Harris plays short. My first reaction is usually, "wow, what a beautiful save". However, a few minutes later I'm left wondering why did she have to make such a spectacular save off the cross bar if the ball was directly over her head?
That won't happen. We can however, find an adequate replacement. (I still think Solo has it in her to be stellar again in four years time).
#1 - Lloyd 3' #2 - Lloyd 5' #3 - Holiday 14' #4 - Lloyd 16' In watching the replay, what struck me today was the rapid succession of the goals. I don't know if there is a technical term for "live ball action" but as best as I can determine: Between #1 & #2 - 22 seconds Between #3 & #4 - 30 seconds* NUTS * - I included the 54 yard "hang-time"
Yes, there was hardly enough time to refill your cup between one emptying and the next (Also, I was still typing pbp for the first one of each pair -- and before I could hit Enter --)
They loved Johnston when she was taking chances and they worked. Sauerbrunn also takes a lot of chances. But here's the scenario. If u start Rampone in the final and the same thing happens, everyone is upset u didnt go with Johnston. Here's the point....there are no big mistakes with a four goal lead...just learning experiences.
someone said the second tiebreaker should be goals in knockout games. I agree. Least minutes played is a ridiculous tiebreaker.
I can see that point, but I like having the second tiebreaker be fewer minutes overall. With a format that allows third place teams to advance, a top team could end up with a lesser side in their first KO round game and run up the score on them. Case in point, the US playing Chinese Taipei in the QF in 1991 when Akers scored 5 goals. If the proposed tiebreaker had been in effect then, it would favor her for the same reason you're complaining about Sasic. So while I don't like Sasic winning it for running up her stats against weak opposition while Lloyd scored in tougher circumstances, it's the most objective way to break a tie after assists because one player achieved a result in less time than the other. And besides, Lloyd got the biggest prize of all. I'm sure Sasic would give up all her goals and that silverware to have that medal that Lloyd has.
Least minutes has it place Id say, but there should plenty of other tie breakers before it, like maybe knockout goals that has been mentioned.
The only thing that was disappointing about this game (and this tournament for that matter) is that Alex Morgan was not in her usual Horse Shack mode. I guess it's been over two years now since we've seen her in that mode. Wake up Alex, and find your finishing mode again ..........
It's a concern and suggests that if there is an up and coming striker, perhaps she can contest for that spot.
I have created a new term to describe the scoring of 3 or more goals within a short period of time...llyodageddon
