Krysta Davey's goal was chosen as Best goal of the week5 by SoccerAmerica. Here's the Best Goal of the Week 5 By Scott French, SA Senior Editor WEEK 5 BEST GOAL: Plenty to choose from in the Philly-New York clash, but none was bigger than Krista Davey's left-footed smash 1:13 into stoppage time. It came seven minutes following rookie Christie Welsh evened things, 4-4, with her second goal of the match. The winner required superb work from Davey, who had scored just two goals in 31 previous WUSA matches. She took a feed from Joanne Peters about 40 yards from the goal and streaked down the right flank, then cut across the top of the box to elude defenders Jenny Benson and Jen Tietjen-Prozzo. Davey slipped her shot, a sharp left-footer from 18 yards, between Tietjen-Prozzo and an advancing Mary McVeigh and past sprawling goalkeeper Melissa Moore just inside the right post. WEEK 1 BEST GOAL: Hard to beat Mia Hamm's 59th-minute winner to lift visiting Washington to a 2-1 win over Carolina and rookie coach Jay Entlich in a Founders Cup rematch. WEEK 2 BEST GOAL: Jacqui Little's first of two in Washington's 3-2 win over New York was a gem. WEEK 3 BEST GOAL: Meinert curled a wicked corner kick over backpedaling Carolina goalkeeper Maite Zabala to give Boston a 22nd-minute lead at Carolina. WEEK 4 BEST GOAL: Kelly Golebiowski's first WUSA strike was a good one. Just seconds after Maribel Dominguez netted a pretty goal to push Atlanta ahead in the battle of unbeatens, Golebiowski delivered a 1-1 draw that left Washington atop the WUSA standings.
Marinnete Pichon Congrats to the winner for the Goal of the Week 7: Marinette Pichon Soccer America's Best Goal for Week 7 By Scott French, Senior Editor http://www.socceramerica.com/article.asp?Art_ID=562133242 BEST GOAL: Pichon's second goal, in the 81st minute, was art. Rachel Kruze, breaking down the left wing, sent a cross into the box that Power defender Margaret Tietjen and goalkeeper Carly Smolak appeared to have covered. Pichon, somehow, sneaked between them, and pulled the ball down on one bounce with her right foot. In a fluid motion, she touched it again in midair to maneuver past a leaping Smolak and then nudged the ball with the outside of her left foot to turn Tietjen around and provide herself an open net.
Soccer America' s Best Goal of the Week 8 And the winner for the Best goal of the week is... Aly Wagner! http://www.socceramerica.com/article.asp?Art_ID=562133270 Quote -------------------------------------------------- BEST GOAL: Carolina's attempt to put together a winning streak -- or even an unbeaten streak -- fell victim to rookie Aly Wagner's finest WUSA performance Saturday. Wagner, the No. 1 pick in February's draft, was masterful in control of the Spirit attack in San Diego's 2-1 triumph. Shouldering more offensive responsibility in injured star Shannon MacMillan's absence, Wagner took six of the Spirit's 13 shots and netted her first WUSA goal. The 78th-minute winner arrived two minutes after Danielle Fotopoulos pulled the Courage level. A Zhang Ouying lob into space found Julie Fleeting on the right flank at the top of the box. The Scotswoman, her back to the net, rolled a pass Wagner's way, into the semicircle. Wagner took the ball with a pirouette, which shielded Tiffany Roberts away, then chipped it with her right foot, a 19-yard shot that split Roberts and Nel Fettig and beat diving Kristin Luckenbill inside the left post. ''It was a back-breaking goal,'' Fotopoulos said afterward. ''A big dagger.'' San Diego, at 3-1-3, is off to its best start. --------------------------------------------------
