After being up on the home page of the wusa.com site for over three months the "Who will win the 2003 Founders Cup?" poll finally closed this morning and here's what the final totals of the vote were: Washington 24% Atlanta 18% Carolina 14% Philadelphia 12% San Diego 10% San Jose 9% Boston 8% New York 5% It is a little disappointing that the defending champions only had 14% of the vote, but when you consider how far down Carolina was after the first week of the voting, I consider this to be sort of a moral victory for Courage fans that Carolina ended up finishing as high as third place in this poll. In case anyone is interested, here's what the results of this same poll were on September 26: Washington 28% Atlanta 22% San Jose 19% Philadelphia 11% San Diego 10% Carolina 7% Boston 2% New York 2%
Asinine! How can Philadelphia be picked so low when we have the league's MVP AND the player who would have been the MVP if not for injury (Kelly Smith)? I might also add that the Charge's defense is the best in WUSA.
And I'm sure my multiple votes were a significant part of the Courage comeback in the poll.... thanks for keeping track of this, Nordby1!
Great Job Heeligans!! Too bad wusa.com didn't keep the poll open until the start of the 2003 season. ;( At the rate that the Courage were catching up in the poll I'm sure that they would have caught the Freedom just in time for the home opener.
