Just curious - how many of us write about soccer? How many websites are dedicated to articles about our favorite pasttime? Have any of us ever been published? How do you go about getting a soccer related article published?
you should read the book "among the thugs" by bill buford. unreal stories of thugs in england and indepth crowd riots. really a well written book about his stories of living in the life of a european football fan. its a great book if you love soccer or football
I tried getting my work published once but it didn't work out. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I wrote a 167 page analysis on the 2002 WC. It was a breakdown of all of the 32 teams. Although I didn't get it published, I did show people in my town and did write short articles in my school newspaper. I'm in college now and I hope to get into the journalism field and hopefully one day I'll be writing about soccer on some site.
I've been covering high school soccer games in the Montgomery and Frederick county areas of Maryland for one of the local newspapers. It's a good way to get college credit! (internship).
Oh for the love of God, don't tell me Dr. Wankler posted a link to his review of Offside: Soccer and American Exceptionalism again
If anyone wants to write, I'll consider posting columns and articles at our site. www.FootyMundo.com It is a links based site, but we're always open to interesting content that makes use of links on our site or just columns on interesting topics. One catch. We CANNOT pay you a dime for your work. Drop me a private message if you are interested.
The reason for this post was to see if there was interest in creating a clearinghouse site for articles about soccer. It's still being worked on, but its at www.soccerwriter.com Send me a PM or an e-mail for more info.
You Knew This Was Coming I published a book called The Games That Rate. It's available at www.1stbooks.com. It rates and recounts the greatest games in the five major team sports from WWII to 2000. Unique among books published in America of this kind, The Games That Rate treats soccer as prominently as the other four major team sports. Indeed, two of the nine of The Games That Rate are soccer games. Enjoy!
I've been writing some stuff for ussocceruk.com- our content can be currently be found at planetfootball.com. Drum roll please Yellow card me if you must for Spam - but the www.soccerwriter.com site will be offically open for buisness tomorrow. Feel free to post articles, op/ed pieces and interviews.
I have a home page called "Random Musings" where I write about whatever topic comes to my mind at the time. One of them was about soccer in the USA.
Well this guy wrote plenty about soccer.... "The difficult, the extraordinary is not to score 1000 goals like Pele, but to score 1 goal like Pele." Carlos Drummond de Andrade *Brazil's greatest 20th Century Poet which today would have turned 100 if he were still alive. He loved soccer and wrote often about it. http://www.carlosdrummond.com.br/
