Jason Kreis has recently mentioned that he didn't know if he was going to be able to contribute to the Burn when Frisco 2005 rolls around. Given that, and the fact that the Burn have been snake-bitten in the playoffs with Jason's drop-off in production; would you be willing to trade Jason to a team that is on the brink of winning the MLS Cup so he can get what he deserves?
I don't know how to vote. I don't want to stand in his way so it would depend on what we can get in return. If we can get a player or two that gives us a better chance of winning a championship AND Kreis gets a better chance then...maybe. Sure. Trade Kreis and roll the dice with a talented but unproven youngster - No thanks. Kreis for Twellman - yes. Kries for Ralston and Wolde Harris - no thanks. I want to Kreis win a championship here.
I had to vote other. When Burn players leave, I generally hope for good things to happen for them, but my priority scale kinda goes like this: 1. Burns wins championships 2. Whatever else The decision to trade or not trade Kreis should be made based on what the Burn gets out of it. I'm sure some people will argue that Kreis has earned special treatment because of his fine record of service to the Burn, but do we really let that special treatment interfere with the ultimate goal of the Burn winning championships? p.s Guess how much I cared about Graziani doing well in San Jose? (answer: not too much)
I'd say it's too early to say. If the Burn continue to struggle into July or August and look at best like they're headed for another 1st-round-and--out playoff performance, I'd encourage the team to look at trading Jason for some solid young talent. But if the Burn manage to turn things around and look like they could do well in this year's playoffs, keep Jason even if it might hurt his chances of being on a championship team.
Other Like any player on the Burn, I would trade him if it made the team better in the long-run. Unfortunately, with his reputation of second half and playoff mediocrity I doubt the Burn would get much value for Kreis. So, unless he becomes a clubhouse cancer over the issue I would keep him.
What kind of question is this? Trade one of our players so HE can win a championship? Surely you mean trade one of our players so WE can win a championship, right? If not, your priorities are completely backwards. I suppose the implication is that we should somehow feel sorry for Kreis. I don't. He's a professional soccer player in the US, and even more rare, a well-paid one. I can't imagine much more you could ask out of life. So he may never win a championship with the Burn. Boo hoo.
agreed 100%, if he wants to win a championship then he needs to rally the rest of the offense to contribute to the scoring. He's the only consitency on the team, we lose him who knows what will happen. Whoever votes for "build the team around EJ" needs some screws tightened IMHO.
I would trade him any day if it brought us MLS Cup. Winning MLS Cup NOW is what this entire franchise is about. I could care less if Jason wins MLS Cup for himself, and probably he does not care either, it's about the team. WIN MLS CUP. Everything else is just details.
This is perhaps the closest to what my current reasoning is. If Jason works better with Rhine because of Bobby's unselfishness, then make it happen. If Cerritos can add to the fray later in the season like he did last, so be it. If Rhine isn't helping the cause at 60, sub in Cerritos and work it that way. If EJ can't handle riding the pine for another year, trade him - because EJ won't go much longer tearing up U23 and scoring magnificent goals in practice without growing totally bitter. But wait... who is at "what level of experience", and who is young, and can contribute to a nucleus of a prominent future club. And when you factor in Dragon and the induction of Frisco, the equation gets even more interesting. If we trade Jason Kreis now, could we add to a good nucleus and work a four year championship plan?
IF we could get some good value for him, great. But clearly we don't need to give him away just to give him a chance. He had his chance to move to another club if he thought they had a better chance. Why can't the Burn be good enough to win it in the next year or two? Also, gotyourback, WHAT drop in production? He seems to be doing fine right now.
Context... production drop-off come late-season/playoffs... At the beginning of this season, ROB offered more scoring, because, quite frankly, the Burn need more than Jason Kreis scoring goals. Well, ROB is probably out effectually for the entire season, so who's going to score more goals?.. Davis?.. Cerritos? (t'would be great if he repeated last year's late season surge).. Rhine?.. If Bobby is to start with Jason, we're going to have to depend on him for some goalscoring *on his own*, and not be dependent on Kreis. I'm not sure we could win a championship this way, but we may be relegated to *hoping for exactly that*.
One more perspective Frisco will be a major focus for MLS upon opening. Indeed, the *soccer world* will notice this unique complex and will get a look at the Burn too. What does this mean for the organization? Do we want the prospect of our only reliable scorer retiring and leaving us in a rebuilding stage at such a critical time? Should we build around our youth and make *THEM* our *Main Attraction* that will pull an audience/market? This is a CRITICAL consideration for HSG and Burn management. While a title of "Defending Champion Dallas Burn" would look good in the DFW/US headlines, the product put on the field that will justify long-term growth is imperative for the first Frisco season.
