I am trying to lobby the USSF to get the T&T game at the Home Depot Center. We all realize we can't have a Spanish speaking team west of tssissippi. So that leaves only T&T. Write, email.Phone or fax the Federation. The address is USSF 1801 Prarie Av Chicago IL. Plhone# (312) 808-1300 Fax (312) 808- 9525 email them at www.ussoccer.com click on the contact us button. This could happen if we are insistant.
Why should we? Why should we be ignored and denied a match while SoCal gets all the love? Let the USSF throw us a bone and give us a game that we don't have to travel 1000 miles to see. To answer your question: No I wouldn't go, but I'm sure there are some here that would.
Beerking of course is referring to the royal "we". I would go if: a) The match was in the HDC and the HDC only. b) Someone in LA would take responsibility in organizing a supporters section and deals with all the bulls*** policies of the HDC. In other words, I want to make sure there aren't gonna be any hang-ups regarding flags, drumsticks, and banners. Trinny fans are good people. I'd love to spend the weekend partying with 'em (and their women ). I can think of one calendar named girl that'll be there. Her husband, however, might be in a different section .
Bingo! And hell yes I'd travel to HDC to see a qualifier. I can't imagine them holding one anywhere else in SoCal.
I would definitely go. Travelling a few hundred miles to LA to see one of the most important games the USMNT plays in this country is a lot easier than travelling to Foxboro or Columbus or Kansas City.
Completely in agreement! If it was played in LA, it wouldn't necessarily have to be at the HDC for me to go. Heck, even San Diego or Portland would suffice!
Hear, hear. Anyone else sick of the provincial whining about "SoCal/NoCal"? The HDC is still in California, and California should have a WCQ. (Maybe Bill and I have different attitudes than some because we've lived in both parts of the state...both have their positives and negatives.) And I'd rather drive to the HDC for a game this important, than to suffer through seeing it in some crap venue like Stanford.
Aaah. I'm feelin' the love. I think I will lift my [stolen] glass of water up to toast to Blue Meanie. Group hug, ya'll!
Don't know if my post came across as SoCal/NoCal whining (I'll let the BK handle his own post ), but it's not my intent. My gripes come from my experiences watching US games in the Rose Bowl (never again) and club games in the HDC (yes, with conditions). The HDC is, as far as I know, the only place in Cali to put a WCQ against a Caribbean team.
In all the municipalities I lived in while in SoCal (7 or 8), not one used the alleged "stolen water". But that's not the point. The point is I was making a joke. As in, "ha ha, let's just laugh." Alas, I guess my holler for a group hug fell on deaf ears.
They could put 100,000 in the Rose Bowl for the Mexico match. Unfortunately, 75,000 or more would be rooting for El Tri, but that's another story. HDC is a great venue. I saw the Denmark friendly there in Jan., which outdrew our most recent WCQ in C'bus. I also saw a few Galaxy games there and MLS Cup, and it is a fantastic place. Except for the horns.
I would go to see a WQC in Lost Angesleaze when: a. Hell freezes over! b. At least half the population of Smell-Lay climbs into the La Brea Tar Pits first! c. After the evil, scum-sucking galacto-filth give San Jose compensation for the now ancient Hermosillo deal. d. Um, if I could afford it. Yeah, I'd go if I had the bucks. I'd go to a match here in Portland too! (a, b, and c above are just required el-lay bashing, in case anyone might think I'm serious.) No group hugs though!! Not with galactofilth fans! But I will hoist a pint with you! GO QUAKES!! - Mark
No Problem BK! I did not set foot in LA (other than transfering in the airport) from 1973 to 1989. It's a place I try to avoid, and now that I'm 700 miles farther away, it's even easier! LA SUCKS!! GO QUAKES!! - Mark
Portland's great, and seeing the US beat Costa Rica in Portland in WCQ in '97 was one of the great soccer experiences I've ever had. Plus we could all stay with SJQF... But it wouldn't be right to not reward the people who built a SSS for MLS. We need to keep the money in the family. When Portland builds a SSS (or converts that baseball park into a soccer park) then we go to Portland.
I went to the October WCQ against Panama at RFK. It was one of the best experiences ever. I'd go anywhere to see one again.. even enemy territory!
I'd pick Portland over LA any day. They are long overdue for a friendly at the least. Still, the idea is to try and create as much of a home field advantage for the USA, and to place in a SSS as much as possible. Playing in boxed and packed venues is more ideal then a stadium that's wide and sparse. If there's a WCQ in Southern California would I go? Yes. It's the United States of America playing, not the Galaxy or Chivas USA. It's also within driving distance despite having to drive through the headache that is LA traffic. Alexi, BlueMeanie, et al--road trip Crank the tunes mon! Cheers!
