JetBlue sponsorship I think this is a good idea, what do you think? I read yesterday that JetBlue will start service in San Jose in July. I was thinking that it would be a good idea that a stadium be built off Coleman Ave near the airport with JetBlue as a sponsor. They are a growing airline company and soccer is a growing sport (in this country at least). If you went to the MLS championship in LA, all the sections were a sea of blue, and we are a fast team More additional revenue can be made by the quakes by having temporary airport parking at the JetBlue stadium parking lot and letting people park for free IF they fly with JetBlue. When the people who pay for parking get a receipt, give them a little discount coupon for a ticket to a future game. This is an idea that has been on my mind for a while. Of course when a new stadium is built, we will need a good sponsor that will benefit them and us as well. JetBlue could be the official airline for the quakes and the team and also the fans can benefit as well with their low fares. What do you guys think? I thought I would throw this out there.
rad? Oh my goodness, I haven't heard that in a while. Anyway, I like the idea of JetBlue sponsorship. Heck, I like the idea of most any sponsorship if it benefits the Quakies. But I do NOT like the idea of building a stadium out by the airport. That pretty much limits use of the stadium to sports. And can you imagine what it would be like if a plane took off during opening lineups, "Your San Jose Earth*enginenoise*". Building that close to the airport just does not have enough pluses.
Um, actually If the SCU stadium comes through, it'll be right by the airport. I like the Jet Blue idea too. Especially, since they fly into Long Beach, just a few minutes away from the HDC.
Only problem is that jetblue only serves three MLS cities direct from the bay area, and only two more indirectly. Dallas, KC, Chicago, and Columbus would all be a bus ride.
Re: Um, actually To me, it sounded like Rumbler meant RIGHT next to the airport, like attached to it. And, to me, that's a bit of a difference from SCU. Yes, SCU is close, but it's not like ON the airport. Okay, whatever, I get your point, but I think there's a bit of a difference.
Jetblue would be a great sponsor for MLS, they area great airline and just the kind of company mls should partner with
It would be nice if INS will become a sponsor of the Quakes (doing their job effectively, and making the Bay Area to be a less attractive market for Club America). (Evil Laugh)
sj_quakes_fan must've meant when CA takes over JetBlue, as that has a greater chance of happening than CA taking over the Quakes. GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I want EA Sports (the PlayStation folks) to become the Quakes sponsors. (See my post in another thread. I think it was the local ownership one.)
Correct. And us sitting around debating whether XYZ or PDQ would be a good sponsor does us no good unless we (as in "the royal we"...like whomever brings up the idea) go out and sell it. JetBlue isn't going to come scrambling to us breathlessly panting "oh my god, we've got to sponsor you, you're in SJC and we're in SJC and you're blue and we're JetBlue...it's our density!"
But, see, we agree on that point, but disagree on who should do the selling. I mean really, I'm a fan. But by posting here, I know the office is watching (*waves*), so what should happen is they should get off their behinds and sell it. For one, that's what they were hired to do. For two, I give them my money by buying season tickets (which I most likely won't even use, but I'm still gonna put the money on) so they can have money to go do these things. For three, I'm just a fan so I can't speak for the team anyway. I mean, like yeah, you get my point. I could go on and on, but I won't. (My mind is really elsewhere these days).
Exactly. But by saying "JetBlue should be a sponsor" or "EA Sports should be a sponsor" or "Donald Trump should be a sponsor", we set ourselves up for disappointment when it doesn't happen. How do we know that JetBlue has a budget to sponsor professional sports franchises? How do we know that EA Sports doesn't have a corporate rule against such sponsorships? By setting ourselves up for this by pulling sponsors out of the blue (so to speak) we unfairly set ourselves up for disappointment when it doesn't happen. And we put an unfair expectation on the club's sales force (such as it is). Folks, just let them do their jobs and what happens, happens. Not to mention any names but I'll bet the airport code where your mind is located is something like PDX.
When I wrote pretty much the exact same thing in the this thread, there was a veritable revolt (and I don't mean the poster Revolt). GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Hint, hint: Competitior SEGA with Arsenal sponsorship. Playstation 2 with worldwide marketing during Champions' League. If EA Sports indeed had a corporate rule against individual team sponorship, maybe they could re-examine it considering Arsenal's SEGA deal. Hey, we're ordinary fans throwing out ideas. Of course, we have no clue about all the internal workings of the front office as well as various corporate executive teams. But what are we supposed to do? Sit quiet and hope the front office just gets everything automatically? As sjqf said above, if they're looking at these boards, at least it gives them the idea to say "Hmmmm", and maybe pursue something.
It's okay to dream peeps. To want good things for our Quakies. Aren't these boards here for us to toss ideas around? Isn't that what makes anything in life more interesting, when you can toss ideas around with other people who are interested in the same things? Heck, if we didn't think of these things...if we didn't post these things...it would be cuz we didn't give a poo-poo. And that wouldn't be good.
Re: Re: Would JetBlue sponsorship be good for the Quakes? Yeah, pretty much. While tossing ideas around here can be entertaining, the front office is gonna or not gonna get certain sponsorships regardless of what we type here... unless you (in this case, the plural "you" referring to the posters here) get hired by the front-office and/or AEG and literally go out there and pull some major sponsors in for the league. With that said, it would be pretty cool to get Electronic Arts as the Quakes' I/O, if for no other reason than to have mini TV and videogame consoles behind every seat of the new EA Epicenter at San José SSS (though that would probably drive most of you away, considering how much you all hate videogames). I still think Ebay would be a great company to sponsor the Earthquakes. I met a guy at a party my son went to over the weekend that worked in promotions for Ebay. He was telling me how Ebay was sponsoring truck races, being that we were at the slot cars supervising these six year olds. He had to listen to me rant that it is a travesty that in our world game, Ebay being from San Jose, that they were not signed on as a sponor. The Earthquakes get world recognition as MLS Champs ,and Ebay with billions, sponsor truck racing? He agreed and took my card and said he would get back to me. Whether or not he is the guy the Earthquakes need to sell is not the point, with our contacts we can help with Earthquakes promotions. Word of mouth is the best advertising.
Yes on both counts. But as a former "card-carrying dreamer" turned "hard-bitten realist", I see the danger signs in us all. We on these boards when bandying about these ideas are way too quick to make the quantum leap from "wouldn't it be great if..." to "why isn't this done yet?" As someone who has been burned too many times by trying to force too much "reality" into dreams, I can tell you that's a recipe for disaster. We're all too close to the situation and all have too great an emotional investment in this club to back off and gain perpective. Yes, JetBlue should be a sponsor. Yes, EA Sports should be a sponsor. Heck, IBM (a/k/a "Big Blue") should be a sponsor. We are all absolutely right to want every local corporation to be a sponsor of our side. And every local corporation should be supporting the local side. But as we've learned through the years, not every local corporation acts the way we think they should. To turn that want and should into expectation just isn't right, and it isn't fair to those that are busting their hump to sell our sponsorships. Personally, I'm going to place my full faith in Alexi and his staff to do what they can with whomever they can. And I'll be pleased with whatever they do.
Well, I think it's just a different life philosophy then. And I may not be that old, but I've been burned by things and people in the past. When I was interviewing for the job with Nike, my good friend told me, "I just dont' want you to be disappointed if you don't get it." But if I don't WANT it, then I won't get it. That's my philosophy. But if I had not got the job, yeah, I would have been disappointed. That's a normal emotion that people experience in life. But I did everything I could. I wanted it. I believed. And I got it. If I hadn't got it, sure, I would have been disappointed, but as the infamous William Hung says, "I already gave my best. I have no regrets at all." Anyway, this thread amounts to this comparison, "Wouldn't it be nice if I won the lottery (I just said that to my friend actually)?" Do I think I'm going to win the lottery? Of course not! I don't even play. If anyone really thinks JetBlue will be a sponsor because of this thread, then, yeah, you're right, they have problems. Okay, let me quit rambling. I think what it amounts to is different ways of looking at life and the world around us. Either you see it one way or you see it another and you can't comprehend what I'm saying unless you see it the way I do. Blah, blah, blah....
