As most would know the superliga a comp between Mexico's and USA's club sides. Well I'm wondering whether a similar comp between A-L and the NZFC could work as a post season cup preferably ending on ANZAC day. Initially no group stage 2-legged elimination between the leagues top 4
Hey mate... not meaning to be rude but. If you notice the weakness of the NZ Knights last year, getting a competitive Wellington Phoenix on the park is a good start. And the whole idea of the A-League is that it is the top competition for Australia. If anything, a Superliga between Australia and Japan would be better. But it would be BETTER to get our A-League established first.
Hehe, the A-League IS the superliga . Though it would be nice to have some sort of Anzac day clash. I actually heavily favour the proposed idea of a 'Gallipoli Tri Nations' involving the Turkey, Aus and NZ NTs, around ANZAC Day. Though obviously it may be tough getting the senior teams together annually during this period, but maybe at a more junior level, like the Under 20 level or something may be interesting, as Ufuk Talay suggested on SBS' The World Game.
maybe an australian club vs the new zealand national team would be a better contest even thoe an australian club would beat the nz national team very easily. lol lol
Just an off topic post here, a 'superliga' is further proof that the game in the states are still going in the right direction but are eroding the 'pillars' of football. That is: League Title FA Cup Title Champions League Title i understand this is a 'league' to get the US interested and talk over here to invite Asian teams for a similar comp has SOME merit but it isnt the right step essentially as it just makes the fixturing a gridlock. NZ football have been weak for a very long time as rugby is king
The NZFC is a tier below the A-League with the basic idea being that the Wellington Phoenix, or any other A-League team for that matter, can take players from the NZFC, such as Jacob Spoonley from Otago United (NZFC), and promote them up to the A-League.
