What is THE worst TV program going (excluding kids TV, which is obviously sh!t) I'd give it to Fast Lane, I just cringe at that cliche-driven drivvle every time I see it. It bombed BIG over here though (UK&Ireland), so I dont see it too much
In all seriousness, all of the reality crap is horrible, all of the knock-off Baywatch stuff- (b level action+maxim girls = crap tv) of which Fastlane is clearly derivative- is sh!te, all of the knock off Survivor stuff (amazing race, etc) is crap, and about 8 of the 9 other shows on TV also qualify. I only watch 4-5 shows with any regularity. Not unlike expansion in hockey and basketball, more channels doesn't mean better TV, it means more bad TV. Also, I'm the only person on the planet who thinks the show 24 is contrived and tedious.
1 Curb Your Enthusiasm 2 anything on MTV 3 Friends 4 anything on WB Network but there's just too many....
Here goes............. Ones, probably only known in Britain: 1. Coupling=British attempt at Friends. Battle-of-the-sexes by numbers. 2. Last of the Summer Wine=Old blokes in Yorkshire make a dodgy go-kart and fall down a hill. Again. 3. Loose Women=Daytime show I have stumbled upon recently. Hideous, immature middle aged women squarking on about such heavy issues as whether they wear make-up. 4. Kirsty Gallacher's home videos=Sadly, not what the title suggests, which is why its in this list. 5. The Bill=Dire police soap thing with stupid plots and bad acting. Shows everyone will have heard of: 1. Real World= aka Irritating 20-odd year olds whine about everything and cry over spilt milk (literally). 2. Eastenders=The sh_ttest soap of any that has ever existed ever. Acting limited, plots tedious, cockneys annoyingly miserable. 3. Friends=Immature anorexic women running around waving their hands about screaming "Omigod" at every opportunity.
Yikes! CYE is what Seinfeld couldn't be on network TV. I'd vote for any reality show that stars people who got famous from other reality shows.
The Definition of apt (for this thread): Dream Team (British programme about an imaginery EPL football team) - they've signed about 8 'star' strikers/midfielders in the last 3 years, and they've ALL just disappeared, without explanation (one of them was explained - he was getting slagged by teammates, so he quit)
I'm not sure if I should contribute, since my favorite show, 24, has already been mentioned a couple of times. If you still trust my judgement, I can't believe the thread has gone this long without one mention of The View.
"So Graham Norton" on BBC America. Horendous. I can't believe the Brits would knock American TV with this crap on the air. Also...pretty much anything on Fox "News" Network. I already here the flak coming, but its just as guilty of leaning to the right as CNN is of leaning to the left, probably more so. As Esquire mag said: "Not really news, not technically porn."
Graeme Norton is CRAP, he is annoying and the guests are absolute nobodies, nobody has heard of 95% of them
I only caught it once. He had Molly Ringwald on. I'd forgotten all about her (figured she must have died, she dropped off the map so hard) and never thought much of her, but my god was she hot! She was always so pale and anemic looking before.
The cleverest of writing can't ever cover the completely unwatchable acting. I understand that it's like a free-verse type of show and acting is secondary, but Larry David and that chick are just god-awful. There needs to be some semblance of acting going on. The problem with combining free-verse scripting and a guy that is a better writer than anyone on the set is that the rest of the cast has to stand around like bumps on logs untill he's done with his rants. It gets very old very quickly. When he is done, there's that uncomfortable pause where the rest of them try to shake out of their awe and get back to the story. I've tried over and over again to watch it, but I just can't tolerate how horrible of a show it is.
Man, that show sucks so unbelievably infinitely. Proof positive that democracy isn't necessarily the answer.
If I compiled the Top Ten Worst Shows on Television, at least five of them would be on HBO. The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, the Sopranos, and Six Feet Under. That's right, they're so bad they get on the list twice. Oh, to those who don't like 24, Conan O'Brien has this spoof called 60. Each episode is one second in a single minute.
It used to be quite good when it was on once a week here, but they changed it to every weekday, and then the quality nose-dived. Of course, when you're on every day, you can't get good guests on all the time, and the budget is spread out, thus increasing this problem. In short, it is a weekly show that is filling a daily slot. Graham was good on Father Ted though. Still, even now he's more entertaining than David Letterman, Mullet Leno, Howard Stern, Oprah and all the other tedious goons you have to put up with over there.
Sorry, I didn't mean to make this a US vs. England issue, but Graham Norton sucks, pure and simple. I can't see how his show ever could have been good. Of course I have only seen two episodes and can't stomach any more. It just strikes me as funny that the Brits with their cultural elitism would make a celebrity out of this talentless hack. And he can't hold a candle to Letterman. No way, no how, not ever.
I kind of made it that way, rather than you, so no need to apologise. Graham's Irish anyway. He is good in Father Ted though. As for your point about how Graham's been successful, I guess its that we like a good nob gag every now and then, or like to say 'tw_t' on TV. Jonathan Ross is better, whilst Michael Parkinson is just an elderly sycophant. Letterman just seems like someone's dad who thinks all his own jokes are great, whereas Jay Leno has frightening chin and haircut combo, whilst spouting really unamusing jokes that way too obvious. I just don't think either are great at all. To change subject entirely, Curb your entusiasm didn't get me going at all. It just seems that all the actors have to stand still when one talks, then a big gap of silence, and then some more unamusing monolouges. Johnny Vegas is 1,000 times better than this.
Does Ian Wright still have a show on over there? When I was there in '98 he did and I quite enjoyed it. Of course seeing him score at Upton Park probably added to my bias.
