I think the real difference between sports-as-business and everything-else-as-business is that sports asks its customers to not be customers but to be fans. We're asked to keep the faith through thick and thin and identify with the company in a way not really true of any other industry. If Coca-Cola or Ford put out lousy products eight years out of ten, nobody would criticize you for switching to Pepsi or GM, but if the Union stink and I decide I'm going to be a Red Bulls fan or whatever, I come in for a criticism as a fairweather fan. I guess what I'm saying is sports are irrational and emotional at their essence, and it seems disingenuous for owners to try to have it both ways.
Philadelphia Union co-owner Richie Graham on why he's betting bigger on soccer https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...r-richie-graham-why-hes-betting-bigger-soccer
Well, that article was underwhelming. Definitely not like Meg Whitman buying 20% of Cincinnati for $100 million.
Really hope it ends up being Entenmann’s. Proud to announce we’ve renewed our partnership with Bimbo Bakeries! With the renewed partnership, we’ll be featuring one of Bimbo’s brands on our secondary kit…which do you think it'll be?? 🤔🤔📝👉 https://t.co/RPG8HsEe4J pic.twitter.com/BDc03ltlYl— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) December 4, 2019

Saw this morning, and believe it. Apparently; McDermott tried and tried to find your stadium solution in Lehigh. Had to admit he still hadn't found what he's looking for............................
um........got notified on the news, figured it was OK to comment on it........since it wasn't "game related". Bottom line on leaving: I just found out too late that the mission statement of the club was diametrically opposed to mine as a fan. I suppose it was just the punishment for being too far away to keep up behind the scenes........... All good. I still watch the league-but just choose to vent toward people in Germany.............. Appeared Philly had their best year. You already know who I'd credit for it................ All the best friend.
I went to zero MLS games this year. I’m not happy or sad or mad about it. It just is. ♂️ Do think it’s interesting the way folks assume there’s year to year carryover or progression. This lineup could be 40-50% new.
From what little I observed, your GM appears to be the goods. You all have gone all in on the Academy. Hope it turns out better for y'all than it did for RBNJ last year. Not sure you can sustain anything relying solely on kids........at least.......they couldn't.
This came out of nowhere. Kevin Durant was indeed at the Philadelphia Union offices today meeting with club ownership. You’ll recall I’ve written about KD’s interest in purchasing a piece of #DCU. Statement from the Union: “We entertained 35 Ventures for a meeting with Union Ownership.” #DOOP https://t.co/7U5iBrMvsS— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) December 20, 2019 A now-deleted photo of KD alongside Union ownership and head coach Jim Curtin at Union HQ. Source familiar with KD’s dealings says the talks in the “early stages, still figuring out everyone’s level of interest.” pic.twitter.com/DtrtV7k0UA— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) December 20, 2019
He's definately got some money, but the Union need a billionaire to compete at the highest level for MLS, TBH.
We had a hazing scandal (spanking, water denial) early on but they kept it under wraps until the lawsuit.
Here’s our fancy new jumbotron. Can’t wait for @PhilaUnion home opener @subarupark as we unveil our new HDR video board, LED ribbons and control room! Really proud of this project as we are amoungst some of the 1st stadiums (and 1st in @mls and #Philadelphia ) to dip into the HDR space! 🌈 📺#forward25 pic.twitter.com/emZfnTDFzx— Carl Mandell (@CarlMandell) February 18, 2020
search the inter webs for "cincinnati fc racism". At least thats the latest I am aware of but it seems with soccer there is always another one right around the corner unfortunately.
So I fully except an empty house for the Leagues Cup game this summer. The ticket prices range from $65-$390.
That's for 3 games. If they lose in the first round, you're charged 1/3 of that amount. Ticket prices are a little less than STH prices. If the Union draw a popular Mexican team there will be a lot of tickets sold. If it's a less popular team, the stadium will be empty.
Increased exposure in the Mexican market and more games for some of the reserves. I assume they the Union will take it seriously much like they do the US Open Cup. I'd much rather pay to see the Union play a quasi-competitive match against a Liga MX team than a completely meaningless friendly. No mention has been made that the winner gets a Champions League berth although it should go to the winning team.
