Not that I want to start a poll , but I've noticed new and improved websites from last season. Now the one that sticks out as the worst has to be Dallas. I mean really can't we get a 15 year old who has some HTML experience to help out on this. Sheesh
i thought about starting a thread on this awhile back. good idea. I think the Metrostars and DC United have the best websites. I agree with you that Dallas' website it pretty bad, but i also think Colorado's website could still use some work.
As a former Dallas native, I'd be on the Dallas site all the time. Then they changed it and now it's way to cluttered and, worse off, freaking slow. The programmers are nice guys, but their site is definitely worst. Tommy Mack www.lariotsquad.net
The MLS's home page is the worst of them all. The news is always late. They offer nothing in the way of resources and compared to MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA home pages, they fall way short of anything resembling entertainment or information.
MLSnet.com I agree is the worst. And DC United and MetroStars are definately the best. Second worst definately goes to the Rapids.
yeah, mlsnet.com needs an overhaul. So does the revs... i don't think it would be too much of a hassle to add "2002 scoring champion" to taylor twellman's bio.
realistically if you aren't DC or the Metros, every other MLS related site could use some work, C-bus could be conted as a exception, but their design isn't the most impressive. MLSnet.com flatters to decieve and quite frankly needs everyone to send e-mails requesting better features, media and interactive sections.
While I agree that the Revs and Burn sites aren't real great, the Rapids site just plain sucks to high heaven. And it's only getting worse over time. Their latest change was to replace the green background with black-and-blue stripes and replace the dark green header with some cheesed up blue-and-white graphic. But left everything else the same so it all clashes. Don't get me wrong... While I liked the green because of its uniqueness in the league, I'm actually kinda likin' the new uniform and black-and-blue thing -- but the site's just hard to look at. And don't get me started on the [lack of current, insightful] content. At least they took down the RapidFire (email list) link that, when clicked a few days ago, actually displayed an error message with all sorts of fun details about the server's C: drive. Can you tell it bothers me?
as far as "old news" goes, here's how i see it. Something enters the early rumor stage here on BS. By the time it's hashed, re-hashed, argued over, and further hashed, it's finally official. By that time it's going on 3 weeks old, and what seems to us as old news. what sucks with dallas burn's website is that top frame. on 800x600, the top frame takes up a good portion of the screen. LA's website - I point to something on the left (presbox, schedule, tickets..), get the little popup box, click on it, and a pause until i get the next page. Matchnight.com (not affiliated with MLS teams, but a site devoted to soccer in the US, none the less). schedule, results on seperate page, us open cup, champions cup, MLS, WUSA, USMNT, USWNT... standings in single table, conferences, and schedules with links to ticket info on the same page..
As a constructive criticism from a regular user of the site, the homepage has been taking forever to load lately. I don't have a DSL line, but even with the 56K modem that I have, that front page shold be loading a whole lot faster than it does. But having said that, I'll predict that they will re-design the site soon. It changes every couple of years or so, and in that case, I'd say that it's about due for a change. Cheers, William
I got sick of seeing the Galaxy site's lack of info that I decided to take matters into my on hands, thanks to the help of allot of people the LA Riot Squad website has info updated days sometimes weeks before the Galaxy's.......in fact we found out recently, some of the pictures that have been posted of the new stadium on our site have been used by AEG's marketing team for reference.....I don't know about you, but I find it kinda pathetic that a company like that has to rely on getting info from a fan site. I'm hope the powers that be realize that the internet is the only way we as soccer fans in the US get any kind of coverage and try and capitalize on that. Here is how I rank the MLS team's sites and btw I'm a graphic designer and build websites for a living. 10 - Dallas Burn (by far the worst, in fact it's so bad that for the longest time I thought the 3rddegree website was the official site and the real site was put up by a fan all I can say is, THIS SITE IS WEAK SAUCE!!!) 9- Colorado Rapids (a trainwreck, it hurts to even look at it) 8- LA Galaxy ( It's my team, but God damn!!! whoever did it has no sense of design....AT ALL!!!) 7- Columbus Crew (Some kewl content, but it just looks like it's not finished...something is missing, maybe add some shades of gold and grey so it doesnt look so dry) 6- San Jose Earthquakes (Although it's not that bad it does have too much of Donovan. they should just move the site over to www.landondonovan.com, I mean wtf? is this Survival of the Sexiest crap?) 5- New England Revolution (Not as bad as some people think it is, but it deffenetely could use a little work) 4- New York Metrostars (Good site, a great improvement from prior years, team still sucks donkey balls though) 3- KC Wizards (nice site, good balance and use of color is good....on of my favorites) 2- DC United (same as above) 1- Chicago Fire (design wise very nice site, I wish Tribesoft did all MLS sites, everything would look allot better) My only suggestion to whoever run the sites is to : 1- get a real webdesign company to do the site, because if the site looks like crap, its probably cuz they paid close to nothing to have it done and well, you get what you pay for!! 2- Please, please, please for the love of God ditch the stupid splash pages!!!! No self respecting team in sports have it, at first it looks kewl, but after a while it's just annoying...... you aren't gonna atract more traffic like that. Just my $0.02 www.lariotsquad.net
lol What is a splash page? Is it the first page you come to when enetering a particular pages url and then redirected to the actual site ala the Galaxy site where you can choose the preferred language? Thanks in advance. Ps LARS is a great site which I frequent often.
I just checked out some of the MLS team websites. What is the deal with the MetroStars anthem? It sounds like something straight out of the Little Mermaid or The Lion King or something. http://www.metrostars.com/fanzone/anthem.htm Did you guys (the supporters) really write that song/sing that at games, or is that something slapped together by the organization? It brings back horrible memories of that Philips/USA fight a while back.
I guess they have to have a 'family friendly' environment at this sort of thing. I guess that means Mathis' rap collection was out of the question, no?
Neil Diamond and Tom Jones had a love child Yeah that song is bad but at the same time the first time I heard it at a game I started laughing. Now I hear it and it makes me smile and I think of Tom Jones and Neil Diamond singing with their Love Child Nick and it alll seems to make sense. This is what happens when people get fed what the establishment thinks they want. Like bad movies, and tv shows and countless boy and girl bands, creativity when in the hands of money hungry management can be a ugly if not hilarious thing. Need I bring up Cop Rock?
It's a page that usually just has some sort of design on it, no content, and then has some link with with "Click To Enter". If you go to www.coloradorapids.com right now, there's a splash page that has a photoshop mock-up of Pablo Mastroeni wearing the new jersey.
saw that yesterday. how very sh!tty it looks..are the rapids trying to one-up the burn's crappy website or something?? speaking of which, i've designed better web pages for my school than the official Burn website. and that definitely ain't sayin much.
In my opinion, they've succeeded. The Burn site ain't real great, but if you've got better than 800x600 resolution, it's easy to see. And under "Breaking News", I see five items within the last three weeks. Try to find up to date content or "weekly update" info on the Rapids site. With this latest switch, the Rapids site went from "not much content, but easy enough on the eyes" to "Ugh".
wow... i change my vote - colorado's site is far and away the worst site. damn. i thought i was ready for the eye-sore... i wasn't.
