I saw a "Worst Ever Player at Madrid" thread in their forum and chuckled (and copied the idea). So - who is it?

We're talking in terms of hype, skill, whatever - you make the call. Nothing is out of bounds (oh God...)

Here are a few suggestive idea from the "We expected great things from you and all we got in return was this lousy t-shirt" category:

    Cruyff
    Barthez
    Veron

Hopefully someone else can add some names I've forgotten and we can all have a laugh...

Barthez does not belong on this list. Taibi does.

I'm mentioning Diego Forlan here as I want him to go on to score some goals in his next appearance as well. :D

    Ralph Milne is the answer.

    And there's always Poborsky...

Since I've been watching United over the last several years, there has been one and only one name to top this category. Taibi. He was so bad that when a player really messed up, you would say something like, "Well, he really made a Taibi of that one." :D

In terms of players that I despise for their sheer incompetence, I'd have to go with:

Mark Lynch. What an oaf. I honestly believe that I know people who are better players... but have no pretensions of playing in MLS, much less for Manchester United (though one of them did play briefly for an A-League team, and both did in college).

I'm still wondering how he ever made the team sheet. Surely, Fergie didn't believe that any stupid, broke lower league side would ever buy the fool because he took the field with Rio one day. Surely, the academy has some other player with more ability. If not, the future of Man Utd is in grave jeopardy.

Almost as slow as Laurent Blanc. Makes Wes Brown look like a cerebral genius of a player. Makes Nicky Butt look like a silky smooth passer.

Beyond atrocious. Have no clue what he was doing there.

Yeah, what a waste of space...

As long as you disregard the Premiership medals, FA Cup medals and European Cup medal, etc.

jeeze u are a bit harsh on the lad... u make it seem like we should kill him instead of sack him... oh well.... by the way, there is not a player alive who can make WB look like a genious...

Barthez was great... I really think that anyone who saw him, even at his worst who is a good judge can tell you that this guy was class...

I think Veron was simply the most disapointing for me...

However Dwight Yorke is surely the worse purchase... ever since he joined a 'big club' he quit trying hard for his country and missed most of our games... u bastards...

lol - Taibi - I was trying to come up with good ones to list and I missed him (I guess you could say it slipped right through my legs! :D).

And I'm with John on this one - Veron is my most disappointing signing.

Wait - who wrote that last line? Claudio? Is that you?

Hasn't Taibi actually had a fairly successfully career in Italy?

If so, perhaps it was nerves, rather than ability...

Somebody has already mentioned him - Ralph Milne. He was fat and useless when he played for Charlton and we couldn't believe it when SAF took him off our hands. We were laughing all the way to the bank.

Bah, clearly, if he had qualified for a WP, then he would have eventually formed a fantastic partnership with RVN :).

What did y'all make of Mark Bosnich? Cruyff and Veron have to be the biggest flops. Poborsky is a close one too. All he did was run into the box and get penalties by diving. Have to admit our Roy Carrol not one of my favorites either. Good cover but will never be number one. Say, where's that clown GK Ricardo?

This has got to be a top five question surely?

    1. Laurent Blanc. Great player in his day, sadly none of those were at United. Never has one player destroyed so much potential in a team.

    2. Taibi. Left his good boots in Italy.

    3. Bosnich. Had he not been lazy, crap at kicking, too fat, too high he would have been great for us :)

    4. Jim Leighton. Made Les Sealey look good, nuff said!

    5. Forlan. Bought on the basis of a video of his goals, the advert was better than the product.

Actually reading this again this is more a list of worst signings rather than crap players.

Jesper Blomquist was probably the worst transfer.

Nah, he played rather well when he was healthy.
