Asia is represented by 5 teams: Korea (Asia champs), Japan, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and UAE. Australia is also playing. Korea is in the group of death: Germany, Paraguay, and United States.

Which Asian team has the best chance to advance to the knockout stages?

Asian teams have gotten off to a poor start. UAE was thrashed 1-4 in their first game, while Uzbek got eked out by Mali. Australia had a draw with Czech, which is a good start for the ozzies.

    Next up: Korea-Germany, Japan-England, KSA-Ireland.

I think it's Japan. They're good and they're not in a terrible group. UAE had the easiest group among all the Asian teams, but I was a bit disappointed to see them lose that big against the Slovenians.

Saudi lost to Ireland 2-1 . Unlucky I thought. Saudi dominated most of the game and had more shots on goal (14-11), Ireland's winning goal came ten minutes before full time againt the run of play.

    Lineups

    SOUTH KOREA: Kim Young-kwang, Oh Beom-seok, Kim Chi-gon, Park Ju-sung, Kim Jin-gyu, Lee Jong-min, Jung Jo-guk, Kwon Jip, Kim Dong-hyun, Yeo Hyo-jin, Lee Ho-jin

GERMANY: Walke, Meyer, Huth, Wingerter, Trochowski, Schulz, Kneissl, Masmandis, Fathi, Lehmann, Ludwig

We're going with a huge lineup to counter the Germans, I think everyone except JM Lee is over 6 ft. Choi Sung-guk will hopefully be able to sub in for Jung to give them a different look.'

The U.S. is no joke when it comes to youth teams. They beat paraguay 3-1. Actually I'd prefer that the U.S. has something to lose by the time they face us.

Did not see the match, but the score line is enough for me ;)

2:1 is a close fought game, I hope this gets the team hungrier for a win in the next match.

    Pics, clips, commentary needed.

This is FANTASTIC! Being in the 'group of death' I was really nervous about their chances, but this is a great start.

    I know, right?

    This is my guess.
Korea will tie with USA, then USA will lose the third game but qualify because korea will save USA again.

Except this Korea plays USA in the third match.
Oh, whatever!!! As long as both qualifies to knock out stage.

    Anyway, here are the standings:

It was an extremely fast-paced and exciting match but with some display's of negativity by our squad. I know coach Park has adapted a South American style of play but never did I think it would also come down to dirty tactics. When our squad was 1-nil up, it seemed as if our players were trying to bait and create impatience for the German squad instead of playing their game. Sure, it was an ingenious and intelligent tactic used by many teams, but I'd rather see positivity on the pitch that display hard work. I won't let the Germans off as well as they seemed frustrated and made foolish challenges on our players. There was a melee that was on the verge to breakout when Huth intentionally kicked Kim Dong Hyun's shin, but tempers were cooled by both the official and both sides' teammates.

I have to say, the bait and counter attack play for that second goal was a masterpiece. That was just a breathtaking play. It was art. That counter attack for the 2nd goal turned the German defence completely upside down.

But on a more suck ass note, we lost two key players through injuries in Park Joo Sung and Lee Ho-Jin(scorer for the 1st goal)

While I can't say whether Lee's injury will be severe enough for him to be sidelined throughout the tournament, I'm pretty sure Park will be out. He looked completely gutted. Really hope he didn't sustain a career threatening injury.
