OK, if you had to pick a World XI from the players who will most likely be playing in the 2010 World Cup, who would make your team? Mine would be:

    1. Gianluigi Buffon (Italy)
    2. John O'Shea (Republic of Ireland)
    3. Ashley Cole (England)
    4. Kim Kallstrom (Sweden)
    5. Rio Ferdinand (England)
    6. Christophe Metzelder (Germany)
    7. Rafael van der Vaart (Holland)
    8. Diego (Brazil)
    9. Ronaldinho (Brazil)
    10. Wayne Rooney (England)
    11. Freddy Adu (USA)

    Subs:
    12. Paul Robinson (England)
    13. Tobias Rau (Germany)
    14. Tomas Hubschman (Czech Republic)
    15. Jermaine Jenas (England)
    16. Carlos Tevez (Argentina)
    17. Robinho (Brazil)
    18. Mourad Meghni (France)

    Anyone else got theirs?

I'd bet anything that at least 3 of the Best XI at the 2010 World Cup are players that none of us have heard of yet. While I can see that you've got Freddy Adu (21 in 2010) listed, there are a whole lot of other players in the 12-14 age group that we haven't heard of.

Well, goalkeepers and defenders do tend to skew a trifle older than midfielders and strikers...

I can see what you mean elninho, you're probably right, but as we don't know who those players are yet, im just picking on players i know. anyway, come to think of it, there may not be that many World XI candidates who would be 20-21 then - if you were to name a World Xi now,how many would be U21? Not many, which is why I picked mainly players from the 18-25 bracket, as they'll be 25-32 in 2010, which is the rough age that a player will peak at, give or take a few years. That's all. For all we know, there could be a 9 year old Botswanan kid whose better than Freddy Adu and is just waiting to come and live in the UK and play for us in 2010...i hope. Actually, now that i think of it, Wayne Rooney has a younger brother called Graham Rooney whose apparently better than he is, so he might make it in there, he's only 14. And get this - he plays for Liverpool's Youth team! Imagine the Rooneys up front against each other in a Merseyside derby - or England v USA World Cup Final 2014, the Rooneys versus the Adus - what a contest! Looking forward to that!

Landon Donovan and DaMarcus Beasley will both be 28 years old at the 2010 World Cup.

I hardly think that's over the hill...

nope they wouldnt be over the hill, it's just that neither would ever come close to being good enough to make an all world team.

nice try to make a cool reply like fidlerre but you missed.

lol, beasley is so fast!!! we are talking about soccer and not track right?
i like beasley but he cant even cross the ball.

    and to fidlerre:
plain and simple i dont really like him. i always would hear about how amazing he is and then i see him play twice in person and he looks like a high school player imo. i also have seen some (not many) mls games where he was nothing special. i have to admit tho lately i have seen some really nice stuff from him. and not just to be a hater, but he really cannot finish or shoot the ball very well. he does seem to have some good potential tho, but never to be close to a world allstar.

I think you're thinking of Jamar Beasley.... DaMarcus Beasley can pull off some devastating crosses when he needs to. He just prefers to go one on one against defenders most of the time instead of crossing.

Three players I think will definitely be there:

    John O'Shea
    Ronaldinho
    Aimar

beasley can run fast, cut, and defend, besides that he really isnt special. he can't dribble well and cant distribute well. if he were in a bigger league is an average player (as of now). i do think he has a lot of potential tho.

From what I've seen of Aimar at Valencia he looks really good but it seems there are many players like him at the moment coming from Argentina.

    Aimar 1.68m, 63kg
    Saviola 1.68m, 60kg
    D'Alessandro 1.63m, 54kg

Small, crafty att. mid./strikers that while technically excellent just don't seem to have the pace or power to really cut it at the top level. Batistuta, Crespo and even Ortega are just that bit stronger which explains their success. You certainly wouldn't want 2 of those 3 in the same team.

Donovon should be up there( he will only get better). Too talented. Just look at the goal against Venezuala and that great run against Wales..his overall play. One of the best talents of his generation. Quaresma and Christiano Ronaldo(Portuguese players , I would put Donovon in their class )

You forgot Cameron Jordan of the USA.
If you don't know him, you will. He's going to go live with Freddy soon in Florida. An improved version of DaMarcus in some opinions. :)
