OK, in the spirit of Crazy_Yank's "Most improved team"
How about naming your "World National Team League"

    16 teams to a division.

    WPL..."A"...and "B"

Well, assuming we should, initially, have some representation from a wide area instead of just Europe and CONMEBOL, I'll submit the following in no particular order:

    Premier Division:
    France
    England
    Brazil
    USA
    Senegal
    Germany
    Argentina
    Cameroon
    South Korea
    Spain
    Italy
    Portugal
    Turkey
    Mexico
    Nigeria
    Ireland

    First Division:
    Switzerland
    Netherlands
    Costa Rica
    Japan
    Norway
    Sweden
    Uruguay
    Colombia
    Honduras
    Ghana
    Egypt
    Scotland
    Russia
    Denmark
    Wales
    Poland

    Second Division East:
    South Africa
    Iran
    China
    Australia
    Saudi Arabia
    India
    Morocco
    Libya
    Angola
    New Zealand

    Second Division West:
    Jamaica
    Trinidad & Tobago
    Venezuela
    Ukraine
    Hungary
    Bulgaria
    Romania
    Guatemala
    Israel
    Czech Republic

This is a crazy idea, but in the interest of fun - I will bite:

Either Ireland or Portugal should give way to Netherlands and possibly Denmark, as well. Sweden is pretty much getting ripped off too.

How would relegation/promotion work? After the first year or two, wouldn't it be predominantly European? I mean, I am no Europhile, but with the depth that their teams would possess, I would think it would be very difficult to maintain the balance between the various regions.

And teams like Sweden and Denmark would rise to the top pretty quickly, while Nigeria and Senegal would probably struggle against this type of opposition week in and week out.

Yes, you're right it would. I don't think the African teams would suffer too much -- at a minimum I think some of the top African teams would bounce between Premier & First.

But I just said (my opinion only) that the initial construct should have some representation from all over. If teams can't stay in the Premier League, they can't say they weren't given a fair shot.

WTF? South Korea, Ireland, Senegal, MEXICO? Portugal's barely deserved of a Top spot. How can you put those teams in and put Holland in the First Division?

Like I said, I was putting teams from each continent in each league.

I disagree. As big a fan as I am of the United States, I think that in LEAGUE PLAY, they would be far less successful than they were in CUP PLAY. If you think about it, the World Cup is a tournament in which form, a hot goal scorer and/or a hot/dodgy goalkeeper can have major consequences on a team's performance. Frequently the best team - or at least many good teams - fail to advance because of stupid mistakes or a freak goal (or referee decisions).

However, in a league that stretches 20 or so matches out over a longer period of time, you find that teams that do well in cups often suffer. The better teams assert their quality over the course of the season as the stupid mistakes and/or freak goals and referee decisions balance out. This is true in England, where mercurial teams like Tottenham are frequently challengers in cups and stronger overall teams like Arsenal or Leeds do not progress so far.

I don't think that the African teams have the consistancy or depth to fare well against a France, Italy or even England over the long haul. However, well-organized defensive teams like Sweden or Denmark would be well-suited to dig in and get good results.

    Maybe these just these ones.

    Premier Division:

    Argentina
    Brazil
    England
    France
    Germany
    Italy
    Uruguay

Thse are the only ones the deserve to be in the premier division because they are the only ones that have provern themselves in the past to be worthy of such a fine competition.

*lol* that's the worst list yet. I fail to see how teams who didn't even qualify for the cup deserve to be in the WPL. Holland can promote be winning the 1st division.
