Enter scores in the spreadsheet and standings are calculated
    automatically.

Uses Excel formulae - no scripts or macros. No advertising. No sweat.

Can be changed to your language or time zone, if you wish.
You can also modify team names for your own fantasy league,
    if desired.

Euro 2008 spreadsheet also available from same web page.

I programmed it carefully to conform to FIFA's tie-breaking
rules and it appears to work more accurately than other
spreadhseets I've seen online, resolving tighter ties than others'
    efforts.

Gallery of screenshots allows you to preview before downloading.

Please e-mail me (address at web page) to let me know
    if you like it.

Re: Free World Cup Excel spreadsheet (Euro 2008 also available)

I also made a program for Euro 2008, with Excel and Access, Match.
Match! is a software-package with which you can track all kind of things related to sport-competitions e.g.: match-results, team-ranking and topscorers-list.

Specially for UEFA Euro 2008, Match! has been extended with a gambling-module, so you can organize a pool with it. We already put the complete match-schedule of Euro2008 in Match!, so you can get started quickly.

If you are interested in Match!, send us an email, and we mail you a free demo-version, which is almost the same as the complete version, only you can’t calcutate the rankings of teams and gamblers with it. Or you can download it yourself, including 2 different match-schedules (timetable and calendar), see our website:

Excel Soccer World Cup 2010 Planner

    Hi there...

My three friends and me have created a freeware (and will remain free) planner in Microsoft Excel for the footbal World Cup this year. The planner contains sheets for planning the games including tables for the results etc. and a prediction game for 128 particpants. Different options allows to setup the planner to your needs: for example time zones or the points given in the prediction game. The planner is available in German, English and French, here the link to the dedicated english website, where the file can also be downloaded:

    http://www.en.excel-soccer-2010.de

Of course, any feedback, suggestions or contructive criticism is appreciated here in this post or to the eMail mentionned in the planner :)

    Regards

Re: Excel Soccer World Cup 2010 Planner

Great job, it's extremely well done. How do penalty shootouts work though? I assume the "PSO" field on the results page is for shootouts, but it seems to count them as goals in the table and in the prediction game charts, as if a team that won 5-4 on penalties actually won 5-4 outright. Not a huge problem because the winning team still goes through in the simulation, but the table looks weird with 6-5 and 5-4 results sprinkled among 2-1s and 1-0s.

Re: Excel Soccer World Cup 2010 Planner

    Hi Neuwerld...

many thanks for the positive feedback :)

Yes, you are right (if I understand you well, English is not my native language). The penalty shoot results are counted in the results sheets and the charts. However we are still improving the planner and I think, we perhaps can add a new customizable option that allows to the user either to count the PSO like now or just take the difference (e.g. 5-4 will be counted as 1-0). I have taken your suggestion on our suggestion list by users.

    Great work.

Is it possible to get one of these, exactly like this one, but with white boxes beside each match for people to enter score?

    Thanks.

    World Cup Simulator

    Hey all!

In my excitement for the World Cup, I've been looking for a simulator so I could press a button and play the tournament. I didn't have much luck so I decided to get my feet wet with some javascript programming and I've developed my own. :D

    Please check it out at:
    http://www.doyledevelopment.com/world_cup_simulator.html

I've used Nate Silver's/ESPN's offensive and defensive rankings (modified a bit to favor South Africa and, to a much smaller extent, all African teams). You can press a button and watch the group stage tables fill up or Stage Two run through the finals. Another button allows you to run a batch of 250 tournaments. Then you can look at the statistics page to see how each team does on average. The US does better in my simulation than I would have expected!

If I can find the time, I'd love to implement the ability to modify the rankings. Anyway, please check it out and give me some feedback.

South Africa getting to the semis isn't that crazy. South Korea did it in 2002.

That's the whole beauty of the World Cup. There are always cinderellas. I think the fact that Brazil wins about 30% and Spain 20% in the simulator is pretty good.

    Re: World Cup Simulator

    Impressive work. Repped.

I have a couple of questions for you:
    1) Is the defensive rating of a team inversely proportional to its score. I.e a team with a rating of 0.5 better at defense than one with 0.7. I am assuming that offensive points and defensive points are the average number of goals scored for and against. Is this assumption true?
    2) I would love to know how to predict a match result between say two teams based on just these offense and defensive rating points. Would you be kind enough to show us one example. Puhleeeease
