Actually, Benson has played better this year than Mitts. Benson beats players off the dribble better and is a better crosser of the ball. The loss of Mac and O'reilly has created a shortage up top... My view is pair Milbrett with Hamm, very mobile pair with the ability to get behind defenses, and create dangerous situations in the box. Some one mentioned dropping Parlow into midfield, which I beleive is an excellent idea, her holding ability, mixed with her ability to pass will give Wagner the help she needs and service the forwards. Wambach will make the team, but I see her more coming off the bench, alhough start her against Nigeria. here's my 20: 1)Mullinex 2)scurry 3) hucles 4) fawcett 5)foudy 6)lilly 7) pearce 8) reddick 9) sobrero 10) wagner 11) bryan 12) chastain 13) hamm 14) millbrett 15) parlow 16)slaton 17) wambach 18) fair 19) o'reilly 20) roberts and if o'reilly is out, then tarpley
please, no Thori Bryan. Sure she's fast but she's got NO ball skills. My hope for the defense is that Slaton heals and gets fit. With Fawcett, Slaton, Pierce, Sobrero, Slaton, Chastain and Reddick you've got 7 defenders that can play either inside or outside - provided they are all healthy. If you feel the need for an 8th defender, I'd want to pick someone younger with ball skills. From the WUSA, I like Grubb. I know she is slow but she seems to get the job done. Also, for me, Benson and Bivens are better options than Bryan. To be honest, I could find a bunch of better options than Bryan....
oh, I won't argue about lack of ball skills... the 20 are the 20 I think will make it...not the 20 I'd select..... I'd agree, performance in WUSA should count a bit more than it does... there's a model for the proto-typical NATIONAL team player, and there's the evident style of play... ... the unc model
Ehhh...I'll dump this in here...some new USWNT stuff from the "Center Circle" sectionon the USSF site... http://www.ussoccer.com/editorial/content.sps?iType=247
funny to go back to may-june and see all the predictions people were making and how many people thought mac was out for sure...you just never know.
