Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 First game of the continued qualifying is tomorrow, with North Korea taking on Saudi Arabia (according to soccernet).
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Um.....so who's the US playing? Oh wait! Sven, you're done pal. We're going to sign your pink slip for ya!! Seriously, if Mexico screws around they could not qualify. They proved they could lose last time around at home and their team is in shambles. The US on the other hand just needs to figure out who's going to play left back and we're set IMO.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Any word yet (or speculation) on who our starters will be? I could just go over to the "U.S. Men's forum," but I'm lazy.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 I have to agree with Goff's lineup. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2009/02/usa_roster_1.html?wprss=soccerinsider Howard; Hejduk, Onyewu, Bocanegra, Pearce; Dempsey, Bradley, Kljestan, Beasley; Donovan, Ching.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Altidore the CF instead of Ching perhaps? Otherwise it looks pretty straightforward to me as well. Also, how much has Kljestan played the bottom of ye olde empty bucket? Might Clark be a better option there?
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 I just don't think we'll see Altidore start over Bradley favorite Ching, but I could be wrong, it's happened like twice before.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Altidore will be a sub IMHO especially after Ching's performance against the Swede's.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 I agree unfortunately, I think Altidore is a better player but I can see Bradley going with Ching's experience. I'd rather see Altidore he brings more to the table than Ching does.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 I agree 100%, I think with more playing time on the club level and more caps he will get his chance at the starting job. Come South Africa 2010 I think Altidore will be one of the starting forwards.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 For sure, he's still only 19, pt with his club and experience with the nats will only make him better. Hell he'll only be 20 during the 2010 WC, unless he has an awesome next season I don't expect him to start in the WC but I have nothing but patience for him and Adu. They have plenty of time to develop.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Yeah they are defiantly the future, but I think with consistent play by Altidore in the next year and he will pull a 2001/2002 Donovan and make a serious run for a spot on the starting XI. Even if he doesn't his future (along with Adu's) is very bright.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 It's official - Chicago will host a World Cup Qualifier. Luis Arroyave reporting the June 6th match against Honduras will be at Soldier Field. This has been about as great a qualifying schedule as we Midwest fans could have hoped for with the first three home games in Columbus, Nashville, and Chicago. Thank you, USSF.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 RSL's official team blog has announced Rio Tinto will be hosting the Sept. 5th qualifier against El Salvador. The final game of the Hex, Costa Rica on Oct. 14th, is now the last home qualifier up for grabs. Is hoping for Dallas or Denver getting too greedy?
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Wow, no one can scream east coast bias this time around. So far the farthest East is Columbus.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Yeah, it's awesome. One of my roommates and I were just discussing whether or not Chicago would get one since he couldn't make Columbus. I don't know if I can afford 3 trips but with Nashville being only 4-5 hours away from Indy I may have to go to all 3. I don't know if I can pass up these chances.
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 This might be a bit pre-mature,,but anyone know when the tickets for the game in Chicago go on sale?
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 All today's results, sans CONCACAF. Asia Group A Japan 0-0 Australia Uzbekistan 0-1 Bahrain Group B Korea DPR 1-0 Saudi Arabia Iran 1-1 South Korea Good result for the Aussies in Japan, although everyone's "sleeper" pick, the Uzbek's, have only 1 point, and have dropped 2 games at home, where they were unstoppable in the earlier round. UEFA Group 1 Malta 0-0 Albania Group 3 San Marino 0-3 Northern Ireland And David Healy wasn't one of the scorers. Group 8 Ireland 2-1 Georgia
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Man, with the wind as it was, I thought Mexico had an advantage over our set pieces. I'll stand/sit corrected. Great reactions by Bradley
Re: World Cup Qualifying [R] v1.1 Did you end up getting a Bradley jersey? I remember you wore it at the 810 Zone, but couldn't remember the name on it.
