McCarthy sounding pretty confident and he wants the car:

South African striker Benni McCarthy vowed that Porto would win the World Club Cup for the second time after beating Penarol of Uruguay 2-1 in extra time to win the title in 1987.

"It's natural for European clubs to win because the best players in the world are playing in Europe," said Porto's top scorer. "As a bonus I hope I'm man of the match so I get that nice car (on offer)."

How about concentrating on the game at hand and forget about the car :p

Pride at stake for Porto and Once Caldas

YOKOHAMA, Japan, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Portugal's Porto have thrown down the gauntlet to unheralded Colombian side Once Caldas ahead of Sunday's World Club Cup in Japan.
Porto beat Chelsea 2-1 in midweek to advance to the last 16 of the Champions League and give the club a huge lift going into the last edition of the annual clash between the champions of Europe and South America under its present one-off format.

"This is the last Intercontinental Cup," Porto coach Vitor Fernandez said on Friday. "I want to show that European clubs are superior to South American teams by winning it."

Though less of a force than when they won the Champions League under present Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in May, the Porto players also feel they will have the edge in Yokohama.

However, South American clubs have traditionally taken the World Club Cup more seriously than their European opponents and have won 22 times against 20 victories for Europe.

Once Caldas will perhaps feel they are destined to win it after overcoming defending champions Boca Juniors on penalties to win the two-leg Libertadores Cup final in July.

Certainly Once Caldas's players are relishing the challenge of bringing the unofficial title of the world's best team to the small-town club from Manizales in the Colombian Andes.

"I'm trembling with nerves and excitement," said captain Samuel Vanegas.

Coach Luis Fernando Montoya warned that his team were capable of springing a surprise in Yokohama.

"We represent South America and that's a big responsibility," he said. "We may not have lots of money but you can still have success -- we've proved that and want to do it again."

Japan will host a new-look 2005 and 2006 World Club Cup competition, which will comprise a club from each of soccer's six confederations.

I just hope Porto respect Caldas talent, because you don't win the Libertadores Cup just by showing up

I know the Colombians can play, they will be hungry

Yes, I hop Fernandez has our boys ready for a tough battle. Porto will not win this match unless it plays to the very best it can. Any kind of lackluster performance and we are toast, because I guarantee you, Once Caldas is probably even more pumped for this than our guys are. South America has always placed greater importance in this competition than European sides have historically. Porto better be taking it very serious.

We have to play at our best, because the Once Caldas players will start this match like it was the game of their lives, from what i´ve heard and read they play like Boavista, so isn´t going to be an easy task, hoppefully our players will give 100% and fight till the last minute to bring us another trophy.

the game is soldout, and Porto sold over 3,000 Porto Jersey's, good luck to all portistas

Japoneses compraram três mil camisolas do FC Porto

McCarthy called offsides. I think it was correct call, but barely.

Luis Fabiano hits the crossbar. Best shot so far, other than the offsides.

I'm a bit concerned about the turnovers at midfield.

Unbelievable! First post, then crossbar, then McCarthy misses an obvious chance! :(

Halftime. But not before Caldas got their one good shot, thanks to the midfield turnover. That's their game: conservative, slow, counter, prefer to play all the way to penalty shootout.

Like the Greek focks at Euro2004. I know. I know. That's history but I can't help myself.

Man, I can't believe how are Porto not winning this Game. It was very fishy how Big Mac's goal was disallowed. THis Once team doesn't seem strong at all but looks like they couldn't pull off decent counter attack. Porto can't commit so many forwards.

They can solve this one without much difficulty. Spread out the attack. Force the other team to chase players around. Don't need to overshoot them when you can create space for Diego and Maniche to work with.
