Fox, NBC reportedly submit bids for Women’s World Cups… but not ESPN. CBS could be a dark horse entrant. Of course, if NBC gets it, Peacock could have every game (in addition to NBC and USA) plus bonus coverage. Paramount+ has more subscribers than Peacock. Let's see what happens. Any guesses? Personally, I'm not surprised to see ESPN has no interest. I think there's a rule that stipulates a certain number of games *must* be on broadcast TV. This part is juicy:
I thought the Men's WC rights were owned by FOX for WC'26 and beyond. Is that not correct? I'm a little surprised that rights to WWC'27 weren't already worked out too.
Apparently not. Didn't Fox get the 2022 WC rights for nothing due to the competition being in November?
Fox's original deal was 2015-2022, and then it was given 2023-2026 for free, so starting in 2027 it's up for grabs.
I think I would be as well. The question is...what's a preferable app? Peacock or Paramount+? I'd be tempted to say Paramount+ if only because it actually works on my Samsung TV, but they gotta fix that UEFA CL set. Turn some lights on please.
Peacock already has an established track record of carrying multiple World Cups and Olympics in full. If they get the rights in both languages, all they need to do is add the English audio feed and studio commentary.
https://bsky.app/profile/jeffkassouf.bsky.social/post/3lcxnzxqpac22 FIFA negotiating exclusively with a "non-traditonal" media company for 2027 and 2031 Women's World Cups. Let's see if this is something in the Amazon/Apple/Netflix types or something more weird.
Was that DAZN that DC United had for about three games before they went back to a traditional outlet?
Netflix got the rights for the Women's WC: https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/womens-world-cup-netflix
Yikes. Didn’t they crash their whole platform when they broadcast some boxing match or something? They better seriously stress test their system between now and then!
