So France, with a 100 point adjustment for home field advantage, is the Elo system's favorite, although not by a great margin.

here's the full game beterrn Scotland vs Jamaica
Scotland v Jamaica - Womens Football Internationals 2019 - YouTube

    interesting for Americans;
the commentator mentioned that "a lot of the Jamaicans were born in the US", so it's nice to have a B team in the WC(since Mexico didn't make it, lol). They got some speedy fwds, but need to work on some kinda press as they left the passing lanes way to open.
Scotland's most athletic player, Esmlie, will be play for the Orlando Pride after the WC. Kim Little seems to be back to her NWSL days(some nice give n go's in this game) but the one to really look out for is the 20 year old mid named Cuthbert

Not so amazing if you think about it. NZL have consistently been a top 20 team, so you would expect them to a result against top 10 and even top 5 nations every once in a while - it's honestly more amazing that they *haven't* won a WWC match yet.

    Sweden 1 - 0 Korea Republic
    (Janogy 90+2')
Order of the day from Deok-yeo to his team was to practice transformation from midfield into offense and to work on the link-up play. Koreans did just that. Dunno exactly what Gerhardsson plan for his team was. Swedes were good in destruction play ...and that's about it.
Both sides saw a wrongly-disallowed goal. Sweden in 1st half by Blackstenius from CK. Korea in 2nd half by Ji from open play. Koreans attacked but couldn't finish, Swedes played couter but opponents always had numbers return in time.
In added time the hosts took advantage of Korean defense adjusting their lines after double substitution and scored from their usual long ball action.
I really thought that Sweden defensive style of play went into histroy along with Pia. Don't get me wrong it's effective but also...ugly on the eyes.
Korean's look the side that needs cutting edge upfront. If they can find during this week, QF is well within their reach.

    Belgium 6 - 1 Thailand
    [IMG]
Thailand had a proper goal wrongly-disallowed at 2-0. Two of their starting XI were streched from the field. In 2nd half they played with mostly the subs. Still...ouch!

    Netherlands 3 - 0 Australia (record att. 30 238)
Netherlands played really well and finish thier chances.
Australia played below average and didn't finsh on any of their few chances.

It's 8 conceded goals in last 2 games for the Matildas. But what is worse - their play didn't stick. Simple errors, misplaced passes, not working tactics - these are issues to work out in month's leading to WWC not a week before...
Sacking Stajcic so close to WWC may yet prove disastrous for this team.

Huge morale boost for Netherlands. Pieces are falling into place for them.
They look strong. Not without minor issues but strong none the less.

    France 2 - 1 China

France without Henry and Le Sommer simply isn't as sharp, however even without them Les Bleus are still very far from the ordinary. Still, the simple truth is: in order to get their hands on the silverware France will need them both and in top form.
China has shown some very good football discipline against one of tournament favs. With favorable bracket they may even reach semis in this WWC.

I mean, when Canada hosted the tournament, they could only get draws against both NZ and the Netherlands. Even this year, they've drawn Spain, Sweden, Iceland, and Switzerland. You're just now getting worried?

  10. Australia played the very physical game the coach talked about in the interview I posted.
Seems the Orange Lionesses have found a way to deal with it.

Yes. Until now, I didn’t think either NZ/Netherlands could get results that good.

However, Canada’s defense is much better then 4 years ago

England dominated the first half and should have scored a goal or two. And I'm betting they were better in run of play in the 2nd as well. But credit to NZ for the result--they hung in there defensively all day, by all accounts. I doubt NZ could repeat this feat but they'll be very happy to get a result, for a change, against a good opponent.

A Top 10 Players to Watch list on Women's Soccer United by Adam Grimshaw.

I like these kinds of lists in anticipation of the World Cup. I think they're great for both casual and serious fans.

In this case, I don't agree with most of them, or it's not the ten I'd pick but it's OK. It's good to get different opinions on who to watch. I really don't know this Germany team which I suspect is very strong, so it's helpful to see a name like Lea Schuller.

    The 10 on Grimshaw's list:
    Kosovare Asllani
    Lucy Bronze
    Debinha
    Danielle van de Donk
    Alex Morgan
    Lea Schuller
    Suchawadee Nildhamrong
    Amandine Henry
    Caroline Graham Hansen
    Saki Kumagai

Is this quote from that article accurate?

"US born Suchawadee Nildhamrong is without a doubt good enough to get into her birth country’s side, but rather decided to follow her heart and chose to represent her roots by turning out for Thailand instead."

Is Nild really good enough to have a realistic shot at making USWNT?

you've might of invented a brand new sport!; details on "destruction play", please
    here's highlights of the game
    Highlights OranjeLeeuwinnen - Australië (1/6/2019) - YouTube

    the Dutch & US have looked the sharpest based on thiese last month pre tourney friendlies, Was wondering though a few question;

    1) is it good to peak this early?(still 5 feewks from the possible final)

    2) was it good to show your very best right before the tourney(as I'm presuming other teams are holding out)

  25. 1) who says it was the peak of the Dutch?
    2) Dutch coach and players commented after the match still alot to improve and planning to work on that. So they're not the opinion this was the very best they are capable of.
